MNF Buccaneers vs. Giants Point Spread: NFL Week 8 Odds, Prediction
Just as Tom Brady and the 5-2 Tampa Bay Buccaneers continue to rev up their play, it’s Brady’s old foe in the New York Giants awaiting him Monday night. Well, the 1-6 and Eli Manning-less Giants, who Brady has not lost a Super Bowl to.
The Bucs are one of the NFL’s hottest teams and are in primetime again in what could be a beat down. But if Brady versus the Giants has taught us anything, it’s to expect the unexpected.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Aside from the two infamous Super Bowl losses, Brady holds a 4-1 career record against the Giants. But without Brady, Tampa Bay has dropped eight of their last nine against New York.
When it comes to Monday night and just 60 minutes of football, this becomes an even sweeter matchup for the Bucs. Tampa Bay ranks in the top five in yards against, opponents’ yards per play, rushing yards against, and turnover margin per game. The Giants’ offence meanwhile is 26th or worse in all of those categories.
This factors in to oddsmakers listing Tampa Bay as -11 favourites despite being on the road.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Even at 43 years old, Brady is playing some of the best football of his life. He’s on pace for his first 40-touchdown season since 2007 and its led to Brady’s name entering the MVP discussion, but he has better weapons than ever.
It was Scotty Miller’s day in Week 7 with six grabs for 109 yards and a touchdown, but Chris Godwin and Rob Gronkowski found pay dirt too. Brady’s going to be missing Godwin on Monday, which means someone like Mike Evans could step up.
As good as the Buccaneers’ offence has been of late, it’s the defence that completes this team. Linebackers Devin White and Lavonte David are getting some well-deserved praise, while in the secondary Jamel Dean is quickly becoming one of the game’s best.
New York Giants
In a true glass half-full mentality, the Giants were a goal-line stop away from being in a tie for a playoff spot this week. Then reality kicks in as the Giants are 1-6 and deploying on offence that only ranks better than the other New York team in town.
Daniel Jones has shown regressions as a passer in 2020, throwing for five touchdowns and seven interceptions in seven starts. But with 296 rushing yards, Jones actually leads his team in that category and is third among all quarterbacks.
The Giants might need a huge night from Jones to even keep this one close too. New York’s defence gave up 359 passing yards to Carson Wentz last week and there’s not much that points to Brady and the Bucs carving up the NFC East’s last place club.
