Buccaneers vs. Washington Point Spread: NFL Week 10 Odds, Prediction

Coming into Week 10 off their respective bye weeks, both teams will be plenty rested when the Washington Football team hosts the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.  Tampa has been stewing on a 36-27 loss against the Saints in Week 8, while Washington fell 17-10 to the Broncos.

The Bucs are 9.5-point favourites to win on the NFL odds, with a total of 51.0.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

This will be a rematch of last year’s wild-card playoffs, that saw Tampa Bay win 31-23 en route to their second Super Bowl championship in franchise history.  Nearly 90 per cent of Sports Interaction bettors are taking Tampa in this one, while 60 per cent of bets are taking the Under.  The Over/Under has split evenly in the last 10 games between these teams.

Since Tom Brady’s arrival, the Buccaneers have been dominant.  They’re 14-2 straight up over their last 16 games and 10-2 SU in their last 12 on the road.  For the season, Tampa Bay is 3-5 against the spread, including 0-4 ATS on the road.  The total has gone Over in five of the Bucs’ last seven games against NFC opponents.

Washington has looked terrible this season.  They’ve dropped five of their last six games overall and six of their last seven at home.  Covering has been an even bigger issue.  Washington is 1-7 ATS, failing to cover in all four of their home games.  The Over/Under has split evenly this year.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

You can credit Tampa’s loss against the Saints to three Bucs’ turnovers and 11 penalties.  This is where it gets interesting, though.  The Buccaneers lost the last game before their bye last year and returned motivated enough to win their final eight games and become Super Bowl champs.  This year’s bye week has also given the team a chance to heal.  Antonio Brown and Rob Gronkowski both missed last game with injuries, while the secondary was also missing several players.  Brown has been out since suffering an ankle injury in Week 6.  Head coach Bruce Arians previously said he expected Brown to return after the bye, but the wide receiver hasn’t practiced and was seen in a walking boot this week.  Gronkowski is questionable with a back injury and he also hasn’t practiced this week.

Washington Football Team

Washington sits last in the NFC East as they look destined to miss the playoffs.  A big issue for the team has been the question mark at quarterback.  Veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick was brought in to lead the offence, but he dislocated his hip in the second quarter of Week 1 and has no timetable to return.  Taylor Heinicke has been average at best as Fitzpatrick’s replacement.  Under Heinicke, Washington has the NFL’s worst red-zone conversion rating at less than 46 per cent.  Another scary stat is Washington’s history coming off bye weeks.  Since 2007, Washington has lost 10 of 13 games coming off a bye and covered in just two.
