Broncos vs. Chargers Point Spread: TNF Week 16 Odds, Prediction
The Chargers are 3-point favourites on the NFL odds.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Kansas City Chiefs have won the AFC West for a ninth straight season, and their run might not stop anytime soon with quarterback Patrick Mahomes still in his prime. But there’s no doubt that the fortunes of both the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers look much improved now compared to entering the season.
The Broncos appear to have hit a home run in the 2024 NFL Draft by selecting Bo Nix at No. 12 overall, the sixth and last QB off the board in Round 1. He’s an NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year candidate and should be under centre in Denver for years. The Chargers clearly hit a home run by luring Coach Jim Harbaugh from his alma mater of Michigan last offseason. He’s an NFL Coach of the Year candidate and should be on the Los Angeles sideline at least the rest of the decade. The AFC West should be really fun for a while and maybe the Chiefs’ run ends as early as 2025.
Los Angeles goes for the season sweep as it was a 2.5-point favourite in Denver in Week 6 and won 23-16. That score is a bit misleading as it was 23-0 entering the fourth quarter. Nix was still a bit inconsistent back then and threw a pick but had two fourth-quarter TD passes to make things interesting. JK Dobbins rushed for 96 yards and a TD for L.A. but is currently on injured reserve.
Denver is still 6-4 SU and ATS in the past 10 meetings.
Denver Broncos
Denver came out of its bye week and won a fourth straight game, 31-13, over Indianapolis on Sunday and now is in very good shape for a wild-card spot. The team also clinched its first winning season since 2016. The Broncos had five takeaways, but the biggest one wasn’t even forced by them. Colts running back Jonathan Taylor appeared to score on a 41-yard run for what would have been a 20-7 lead in the third quarter, but on review it showed that Taylor fumbled the ball while celebrating right before the goal line so it was Denver ball on a touchback and that changed the entire game. The Broncos managed just 193 yards of offence and became the first team in the NFL this season to win a game by double digits with fewer than 200 yards of offence. Denver has won each game during this streak by at least nine points and has scored at least 29 in four straight as well, the team’s longest streak since 2014. Rookie QB Bo Nix has been very impressive and did have three TD throws Sunday but also three picks and that’s now five INTs in the past two games. Star cornerback Patrick Surtain left in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury, and if he misses time that’s huge. The Broncos are 6-1 ATS in their past seven on the road.
Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles slipped to the AFC’s final wild-card spot with its third loss in four games Sunday, 40-17 at home to Tampa Bay. That was the tale of two halves as the Chargers led 17-13 at intermission but then got their doors blown off. The Buccaneers had 506 yards of offence and did not punt in 10 possessions against a Los Angeles defence that had surrendered a league-low 15.9 points through 12 games. Justin Herbert threw his first interception since Week 2. His 357 attempts without an interception was the fifth-longest streak in league history. Bolts rookie WR Ladd McConkey was back after missing a game injured and had a TD grab, but the Los Angles running game was non-existent. Guard Zion Johnson and cornerback Cam Hart both left injured. Tight end Will Dissly and linebacker Denzel Perryman missed the game. The Chargers are 6-2 ATS in their past eight.
