Bills vs. Jets Point Spread: NFL Week 2 Odds, Prediction
The Bills, coming off one of the more improbable victories in NFL history, have made six straight playoff appearances and currently have the shortest odds to win Super Bowl 60. The New York Jets, coming off a crushing, late loss, have the opposite resume. The franchise has missed the playoffs for 14 straight seasons. Former standout defensive back Aaron Glenn is the team’s new coach.
Buffalo has won eight of the last 10 games in this divisional, intrastate rivalry. However, the Jets have acquitted themselves well at home recently, winning two of the previous three meetings at MetLife Stadium.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Bills are 6.5-point favourites with a current money line of -325. New York has a current money line of +260. The total is listed at 46.5 points.
Buffalo covered last week as a one-point dog at home, and they easily cleared the 51-point total in their 41-40 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. The Jets also covered as a three-point home dog in their 34-32 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, easily clearing the listed total of 38 in the process.
Buffalo Bills
The game of the season may already have been played. The Bills overcame a 15-point deficit in the final four minutes of last week’s Sunday Night Football matchup against the Ravens, becoming the first team (1-277) in NFL history to win when surrendering 40 or more points and allowing 235 or more rushing yards.
Reigning MVP Josh Allen went 33-46 for 394 yards and accounted for four total touchdowns, three coming in the fourth quarter when Buffalo outscored Baltimore, 22-6. The Bills can’t continue to surrender 238 yards on the ground per game, but they also don’t have to face Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson again in the regular season.
New York Jets
Justin Fields passed for 218 yards and a score, rushed for 48 yards and another two touchdowns, and did not turn the ball over in his Jets debut. The Jets ran for 182 yards as a team, including Breece Hall’s 107 on 19 carries. Braelon Allen added a touchdown run and Garrett Wilson hauled in seven catches for 95 yards and a touchdown as New York outgained Pittsburgh, 394-271.
However, New York’s defense allowed four touchdown passes by former Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and they were outscored in the fourth quarter, 17-6. The Steelers were aided by a crucial fumble by Xavier Gipson on a kickoff return early in the final frame.
NFL Prediction: Who Will Win Bills vs. Jets?
Offensive strengths will be attacking defensive weaknesses in this AFC East matchup. A Jets defense that surrendered four touchdowns to the 41-year-old Rodgers now contends with Allen, who is already displaying his MVP form. Meanwhile, a Bills defense that allowed 238 yards on the ground goes against another dynamic, mobile quarterback leading a rushing attack that gained 182 yards of its own last week.
The Jets didn’t fear Buffalo at home the past three seasons, when they won twice and lost last year by just three points, 23-20. New coach Glenn certainly won’t be afraid of them either. Look for Buffalo to struggle defensively again, but they’ll come out ahead in another high-scoring clash, 34-28.
