Bears vs. Panthers Point Spread: NFL Week 6 Odds, Prediction

The Panthers are 2.5-point favourites at home on Sunday, the first time Carolina has been the favourite since Week 13, last season.  The total for this Week 6 matchup opened at a conservative 44.5.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

These teams haven’t faced each other since Week 7 of the 2017 season, when Cam Newton was still leading the Panthers.  The Bears won that home game 17-3, with Eddie Jackson, in his rookie season, scoring two defensive touchdowns in the game.

The under is 5-0 in Chicago’s last six games against opponents with a winning record and 4-0 in their last four games after an against the spread win.  The Bears are 1-6 ATS in games against opponents with a winning record.

The over is 6-1in Carolina’s last seven Week 6 games, with the Panthers also going 6-1 ATS in their last seven October games.  The underdog is 6-1-1 ATS in the last eight meetings between these teams.

Chicago Bears

Nick Foles did it again to Tom Brady, in Week 5.  Facing Brady for the first time since he led the Philadelphia Eagles to a historic win in Super Bowl LII, Foles threw for 243 yards and a touchdown in a tight 20-19 win over Brady and the Bucs last week.

Despite the Bears 4-1 record this year, there are still questions about just how good this team is.  They’ve had slim margins of victory and the Bucs were their first real test of the year.  Khalil Mack deserves a lot of the credit for Chicago’s defense ranking No. 1 in red zone defense and No. 2 in fourth-quarter defense.  The Bears were able to sack Brady four times last week, including two sacks by Mack.

Carolina Panthers

After dropping the first two games of the season to the Raiders and Buccaneers, Carolina comes into Week 6 riding a three-game win streak, with wins over the Chargers, Cardinals and Falcons.  Teddy Bridgewater is starting to look much more comfortable and he was a big part of last week’s win over Atlanta, as he threw for 313 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Mike Davis picked up 89 rushing yards with 60 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Davis has done an admirable job filling in for star running back Christian McCaffrey.  McCaffrey hasn’t played since he suffered an ankle injury against the Raiders in Week 2 and although he is eligible to return this Sunday, he’s unlikely to play as it’s said he will be out for four-to-six weeks.
