Bears vs. Cowboys Point Spread: NFL Week 8 Odds, Prediction
The Bears are coming of a stunning 33-14 upset win over the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football to snap a four-game slide on the road. The Cowboys rebounded from a loss to undefeated Philadelphia in Week 6 by routing the Detroit Lions 24-6 last week to extend their current home win streak to three games.
The Cowboys have faded to 9.5-point favourites since opening at -10 on the NFL odds, and have garnered the support of just 53 per cent of sports bettors. The total has also dipped slightly to 42.5 since opening at 43, but it is the OVER that has attracted 57 per cent of the betting action.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Sunday afternoon’s matchup at AT&T Stadium marks the first meeting between these teams since 2019 and the Bears’ first visit to Big D since 2016. The Cowboys have taken two of three from Chicago, with each of those wins coming by double-digit margins. However, the Bears otherwise hold the edge in head-to-head action, posting a 31-24 win in their last clash with the Cowboys three years ago to improve to 4-2-0 over their past six. High scoring has been commonplace when these teams meeting. The OVER has paid out in seven straight, with the total reaching 47 or higher in each of the past six.
Chicago Bears
The Bears will be aiming to build on a steady defensive performance in Monday night’s win in New England. The Chicago defence limited the Pats to just 10 total yards on their first two possessions of the game, and ended quarterback Mac Jones’ night with an interception on their next possession. While the Bears briefly let the Patriots back into the game after rookie Bailey Zappe entered the game, they responded to a pair of quick New England scores by limiting the Patriots to just 77 yards the rest of the way while also forcing three turnovers. The win also represented somewhat of a breakthrough for quarterback Justin Fields. While he tossed for just one score and 179 yards, Fields maintained his poise while guiding the Bears to scores on each of their first three possessions after recess to put the game out of reach. Fields has now found the end zone in each of the past three games. However, he continues to be let down by his offensive line, which allowed him to sacked on four occasions on Monday, and a league-worst 27 times this season. That represents a major concern against a Dallas pass defence that leads the NFL with 29 sacks this season.
Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys celebrated Dak Prescott’s return from injury with a huge defensive effort. Lucky to be trailing by just a 6-3 margin at halftime after limiting the Lions to field goals on two deep drives, the Cowboys slammed the door in the second half. The Cowboys forced turnovers on five of Detroit’s six second half turnover, including a fumble on the Lions’ drive down to the 1-yard line while trailing by only four points, which represented a massive momentum shift in their favour. In addition to recording five sacks, the Cowboys intercepted Lions passer Jared Goff on two and recovered three of the five fumbles they forced. As for Dak Prescott, he struggled early on, going 3-and-out on three of the team’s first four possessions. But with the defence providing a big lift, Prescott settled down after recess, orchestrating a pair of long scoring drives and tossing for one score against no picks. While Prescott’s return is good news, injuries still remain a concern. Among the players missing time at practice this week due to injury are rusher Ezekiel Elliott, receiver Noah Brown, and tight end Dalton Schultz.
