NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Sunday afternoon’s matchup marks the first meeting between these teams since 2019, and the Bears’ first visit to Kansas City since 2015. These teams have taking turns claiming the win in 10 head-to-head clashes since 1981, capped by the Chiefs’ decisive 26-3 win at Soldier Field four years ago. Recent clashes between these teams have been low scoring, with the total failing to reach 40 in each of the contests during an 8-1 run for the UNDER.
Chicago Bears
The Bears saw their epic swoon continue in last week’s loss to the Buccaneers, and have shown no sign that their fortunes will change anytime soon. Chicago did manage to seize an early 7-3 lead on Justin Fields’ second scoring pass of the season. However, it was an otherwise forgettable day for Fields, who completed just 55.2% of pass attempts while also tossing two picks.
Fields has not been helped by a ground game that generated just 67 total yards last week, The Bears backfield has not been helped by the absence of D’Onta Foreman, who was a healthy scratch last weekend after disappointing debut in the team’s 38-20 season-opening loss to Green Bay. Indeed, the Chicago backfield could be in for a shakeup. According to reports, rookie Roschon Johnson could be in line to take on a leading role in the backfield after compiling 52 rushing yards and 45 receiving yards, along with one scoring catch through the first two weeks.
Kansas City Chiefs
After struggling to contain a rejuvenated Detroit Lions attack in a shocking 21-20 loss on opening night, the Chiefs defense stood tall last weekend, shutting down Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars’ high-powered attack in a 17-9 win in Jacksonville. The Chiefs defence harassed Lawrence all day, limiting him to meagre 22-for-41 passing for just 216 yards and no scores while racking up four sacks, and allowed the Jags to march inside the KC 30-yard line just twice over their first three quarters of play.
While the Chiefs defense is standing tall, the offense could use a spark. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has tossed for four total touchdowns over the first two games, but completed just 53.9% of pass attempts in Week 1, and has tossed a pick in each of the first two games. Injuries that have left receivers Kadarius Toney and Richie James Jr., and rusher Isiah Pacheco listed as questionable don’t help matters. However, second-year receiver picked up the slack by making three catches for 70 yards, and scoring once last weekend.
