49ers vs. Vikings Point Spread: MNF Week 7 Odds, Prediction
The Niners are 7-point favourites on the NFL odds.
MNF Point Spread and Betting Analysis
It’s amazing how little and yet how much things can change in about nine months. Flashback to Week 18 last season. The 49ers and Vikings both had wrapped up their division titles but had an outside shot at the NFC’s top seed. They both needed the Eagles to be upset by the Giants, but New York had nothing to play for and rested its starters so Philly rolled easily.
Minnesota ended up as the NFC’s No. 2 but was upset at home by an average New York Giants and that has largely carried over into this season for the Vikings, who will not sniff the postseason. San Francisco ended up as the No. 3 seed, won its first two playoff games but then lost in Philadelphia in the NFC title game. The 49ers are absolutely loaded so really their primary objective this regular season is to get that top seed and make the Eagles or Cowboys, etc., have to visit Levi’s Stadium this January.
San Francisco leads the all-time series with Minnesota 25-23-1 including playoffs. They last played in the 2021 regular season with the 49ers winning 34-26 at home.
San Francisco 49ers
In many, many ways, Sunday’s trip to Cleveland shaped up as a trap game for the 49ers considering they were on a 15-game regular-season winning streak and off a mammoth win over Dallas. However, San Francisco was still a near double-digit favourite because the Browns were without starting QB Deshaun Watson … and they beat the Niners anyways, 19-17. San Francisco rookie kicker Jake Moody missed a 41-yard field goal in the final seconds. Brock Purdy suffered his first regular-season loss as a starter and he really struggled at 12-for-27 for 125 yards with a TD and pick. To be fair to Purdy, his three most important offensive players in running back Christian McCaffrey, receiver Deebo Samuel and left tackle Trent Williams all left injured. McCaffrey’s insane TD streak of 15 straight games ended. Coach Kyle Shanahan is optimistic the trio will play this week and the extra day off can only help.
Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota improved to 1-0 this season without superstar receiver Justin Jefferson, who might miss the rest of the season due to a hamstring injury, with a 19-13 win at a bad Bears team on Sunday. The offence clearly missed Jefferson with only 220 yards and 2-for-12 on third down. The defence easily played its best game of the year, but that comes with an asterisk as Chicago starting QB Justin Fields was knocked out with a thumb injury. The Vikings forced two turnover from undrafted free agent backup Tyson Bagent. The Vikings are now 2-4 in one-score games this season after going 11-0 last year. They still don’t have a rushing TD, a team first through the first six games of a season. QB Kirk Cousins is 2-10 SU and ATS on Monday Night Football career.
