49ers vs. Texans Point Spread: NFL Week 8 Odds, Prediction

Houston (2-4) featured on Monday Night Football in Week 7, dropping a road game against the Seattle Seahawks. San Francisco (5-2) remained atop the NFC West with a victory over the Atlanta Falcons this past weekend.

This is a mostly unfamiliar matchup featuring one team from the AFC and another from the NFC. They have faced each other only five times, with the 49ers leading the head-to-head series 4-1. They most recently prevailed 23-7 at home during the 2022 regular season.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

This week’s NFL odds have the 49ers at a decent 4-3 against the spread this season and a near-perfect 3-0-1 ATS all time against the Texans. Houston is 2-4 ATS so far in 2025. The over/under trends are conflicting, as the over is 3-1 in the Niners’ past four contests while the under is 5-2 in the Texans’ past seven dating back to last season.

In addition to the more traditional lines, the first-quarter spread is -0.5 in Houston’s favour and the first-half spread is also -0.5. The over/under for the first quarter is 7.5 and the over/under for the first half is 20.5.

San Francisco 49ers

Quarterback Brock Purdy is questionable with a toe injury that has reduced him to just two games this season, and he has been out since Week 4. It is assumed that Purdy will not play on Sunday. After all, why would the 49ers rush him back? They are winning with Mac Jones, who has led his team to a 4-1 record in his five appearances so far in 2025. Jones has completed 130 of 194 attempts for 1,404 yards with six touchdowns and four interceptions.

On the other side of the ball, defensive coordinator Robert Saleh is making this work amidst a flurry of injuries. Most notably, edge rusher Nick Bosa and linebacker Fred Warner are out for the year. Nonetheless, San Francisco held Bijan Robinson to 40 rushing yards and limited Atlanta to 292 total yards on 4.9 yards per play during a 20-10 win last Sunday.

Houston Texans

In the entire NFL, only the Dallas Cowboys have a bigger discrepancy between their offence and defence than Houston. The Texans are No. 23 in total offence and they are scoring a modest 21.3 points per game, a far cry from what was expected after quarterback C.J. Stroud set the league on fire as a rookie. Defensively, though, they rank No. 4 overall, No. 5 against the pass, No. 10 against the run and No. 1 in scoring. Opponents are averaging a mere 14.7 points per contest.

Houston will probably be content to play another defensive slog on Sunday. It can’t run the ball, plus receivers Nico Collins and Christian Kirk are questionable, while fellow WR Tank Dell is likely out for the whole year following a knee injury suffered last season.

NFL Prediction: Who Will Win 49ers vs. Texans?

Expect an ugly defensive struggle on Sunday. Whereas San Francisco has been winning close games left and right, Houston just finds ways to lose. All four of the Texans’ losses have come by one possession. A similar result could be in store in front of their home crowd. Let’s go with the 49ers to win 21-20.
