49ers vs. Falcons Point Spread: NFL Week 6 Odds, Prediction
The 49ers havd looked much more like their usual selves in recent weeks, especially the last two, whereas the Falcons have epitomized what a hot-and-cold football team looks like.
As it stands, Kyle Shanahan’s 49ers are viewed as 5.5-point favourites to win on the NFL odds. The total is set at 44.5.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The two NFC rivals play each other on a somewhat regular basis, with the last five meetings all in the past eight seasons. Through that span, San Francisco has a slight edge at 3-2. Of note, the most recent defeat was at home in 2019, the same year the 49ers made it all the way to the Super Bowl.
So far in 2022, San Fran is a decent 3-2 ATS. The only real blemish occurred in Week 1 in Chicago. Shanahan’s troupe unexpectedly lost as favourites, but the game was played in what looked like a typhoon. The other unfortunate result was in Denver for Week 3. They were 1.5-point favourites and lost 19-10 on a miraculous game winning drive by the Broncos.
As for Atlanta, do not be fooled by their actual win-loss record of 2-3. ATS they are a perfect 5-0. In a surprising development, they have covered as underdogs every week so far. Moreover, they covered twice when the underdog spread was 10 points or more (Week 2 against the Rams and Week 5 against the Buccaneers). They don’t win as many games as they’d like, but they do well against the odds, literally.
San Francisco 49ers
The 2022 season hasn’t been perfect for the 49ers, but isn’t that always the case? It seems as if whenever QB Jimmy Garoppolo is tasked with leading the squad, he’s the problem when they lose. When they win it’s nice but “what about Jimmy G?”
The past two weeks saw San Francisco unequivocally hammer their opponents. The Monday Night matchup against the Rams once again showed who between them is boss in the regular season, and last week was as easy a road game as it gets when they played the toothless Panthers. The defence has not let up from its calibre performances of years past. They rank best in points allowed (tied with the Bills), No. 1 in rushing yards against per game, No. 1 in total yards against per game, and No. 3 in passing yards against per game. Whatever the circumstances, it’s tough doing much of anything against San Francisco when teams have the ball.
Atlanta Falcons
Falcons fans, your pain is felt. There’s no way of knowing if QB Marcus Mariota would have led his team down the field for a game winning drive against Tampa Bay last week. Then again, their fans will argue that that’s the problem: they should have at least had a chance.
On the bright side, 2022 hasn’t been as harsh as some might have predicted. They’re 2-3 and in the process sealed wins late in games for both of their victories. Lord knows how attempts to protect fourth quarter leads usually conclude for the Falcons. A big problem this week for Atlanta is how they’ll score. Not only is jack-of-all trades RB Cordarrelle Patterson on the IR, even with him the Falcons rank low in far too many key offensive categories. They’re at home, but this will be tricky.
