2015 NFL Draft Round One Results: Buccaneers Pick Winston at No. 1

The first round of the 2015 NFL Draft is in the books. As expected, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected quarterback Jameis Winston out of the University of Florida State. While there was speculation as to where Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota would end up with so many teams rumored to be jockeying for position to draft Mariota, the situation unraveled without fanfare. The Tennessee Titans made Mariota the no. 2 overall pick, opting to keep the promising passer rather than accepting offers from several teams that would have give them a boatload of picks and players in compensation.

The Jacksonville Jaguars drafted in the third spot, making it the 8th year in a row that they have selected in the top 10. The Jags took DE Dante Fowler out of Florida as they try to build a defense that can compete in the AFC South. The Oakland Raiders, needing weapons for second year breakout quarterback Derek Carr, selected Alabama wideout Amari Cooper as they look to build off of the late season momentum they found in 2014. Rounding out the top five, the Washington Redskins found some front line protection for quarterback Robert Griffin, III by drafting OT Brandon Scherff out of Iowa. The Redskins were in desperate need of help on the offensive line, making a Scherff a no-brainer.
