Utah State produced just its third double-digit win season in the program’s 126-year history, but there is plenty of reasons for Aggie supporters to be disappointed with how things played out. USU travels to Albuquerque to face the North Texas Mean Green in the the New Mexico Bowl.

Betting Analysis

North Texas finished with second best record in Conference USA at 9-3 behind UAB, but the team covered the spread in just four of its 12 regular season games. The Mean Green were the best Under bet in the country (1-10-1 Over/Under record) despite leading their conference in points scored with 437.

The Mean Green are 10-3 against the spread in their last 13 non-conference games but closed the season on an 0-5 ATS run. North Texas is making just its 10th bowl game appearance, but this is the team’s third straight trip to bowl season.

Utah State covered the number in nine of its 12 games but finished the campaign with two straight ATS defeats. The last loss of the season kept the Aggies out of the Mountain West Conference championship game.

The Aggies averaged the third most points per game in the nation at 47.2, a mark only Oklahoma and Alabama topped. The Over went 9-3 in USU games this season.

There has been some line movement since this New Mexico Bowl matchup was set. Sports Interaction opened with the Aggies giving 11 points and the spread has since dropped two full points. The total opened at 64.5 and has moved up 66.5.

North Texas Mean Green

North Texas survived its own coaching carousel moment that comes this time of the year in college football. Kansas State considered Mean Green head coach Seth Littrell to be the new face of its program but the third-year boss decided to stay at North Texas for another season.

Wide receiver Rico Bussey Jr. is the dangerman on this squad. He leads the Mean Green in receptions (68), receiving yards (1017) and tied for the team lead in touchdowns with 14.

Utah State Aggies

USU’s success in 2018 cost the program it’s head coach. Coach Matt Wells resigned during the final week of the regular season to accept the job at Texas Tech and he’ll be bringing a few key members of the Aggie coaching staff, including offensive coordinator David Yost, with him.

Frank Maile is the interim head coach and is doing the bulk of the coaching preparation for the Aggies’ game against North Texas. Sophomore quarterback and second-year starter Jordan Love is the key contributor to the Aggies’ attack. He passed for 3208 yards and 27 touchdowns against just five interceptions in the regular season.
