Al Dannity | Updated Sep 04, 2012

With the first week of College Football in the books, Al Dannity is here with his power rankings. Records are shown in the order of overall, conference, and against the spread.

1. Alabama (1-0, 0-0 SEC, 1-0 ATS) Roll Tide! The Wolverines were ripped asunder as Bama pounded Michigan in Jerry World. Last week: W 41-14 vs. Michigan. Next up: Saturday vs. Western Kentucky.

2. LSU (1-0, 0-0 SEC, 0-1 ATS) Geaux Tigers! They didn’t cover but it was a solid start for the defending SEC champions. Last week: W 41-14 vs. North Texas. Next up: Saturday vs. Washington.

3. USC (1-0, 0-0 Pac-12, 0-1 ATS) Of course Matt Barkley threw a 75-yard touchdown pass on his first play of the season. I fear for the Orange this week. Last week: W 49-10 vs. Hawaii. Next up: Saturday vs. Syracuse.

4. Oregon (1-0, 0-0 Pac-12, 0-1 ATS) The Ducks went 50-3 up and then rested their starters. Expect another blowout this week. Last week: W 57-34 vs. Arkansas State. Next up: Saturday vs. Fresno State.

5. Georgia (1-0, 0-0 SEC, 0-1 ATS) Impressive cannon arm on Aaron Murray. He’ll need it against Missouri. Last week: W 45-23 vs. Buffalo. Next up: Saturday at Missouri.

6. Arkansas (1-0, 0-0 SEC, 0-1 ATS) Easy start to the season for the Hogs, they’ll either go up or down significantly after the Bama game. Last week: W 49-24 vs. Jacksonville State. Next up: Saturday vs. Louisiana-Monroe.

7. South Carolina (1-0, 1-0 SEC, 0-1 ATS) The Gamecocks didn’t cover against Vanderbilt but a win’s a win in SEC play. More to come from the other USC. Last week: W 17-13 at Vanderbilt. Next up: Saturday vs. East Carolina.

8. Clemson (1-0, 0-0 ACC, 1-0 ATS) Huge win over Auburn in the Georgia Dome. Dabo Swinney is winning back the doubters already. Last week: W 26-19 vs. Auburn. Next up: Saturday vs. Ball State.

9. West Virginia (1-0, 0-0 Big 12, 1-0 ATS) The Geno Smith Heisman campaign is officially under way. That was a huge day for the WVU quarterback against the not-so Thundering Herd. Last week: W 69-34 vs. Marshall. Next up: September 15 vs. James Madison.

10. TCU (0-0, 0-0 Big 12, 0-0 ATS) No game for the Horned Frogs in Week 1 so they hold steady in the Power Rankings. Last week: Idle. Next up: Saturday vs. Grambling State.

11. Oklahoma (1-0, 0-0 Big 12, 0-1 ATS) There are no losers in the countdown but quite a few teams took a tumble due to struggles against weak opposition. The Sooners made hard work of UTEP, they fall out of the Top 10. Last week: W 24-7 at UTEP. Next up: Saturday vs. Florida A&M.

12. Virginia Tech (1-0, 1-0 ACC, 0-1 ATS) Can we just place the Hokies in the ACC title game now? Big result over Georgia Tech last night. Last week: W 20-17 vs. Georgia Tech. Next up: Saturday vs. Austin Peay.

13. Texas (1-0, 0-0 Big 12, 0-1 ATS) The offense didn’t exactly electrify but the Longhorns took care of business. Last week: W 37-17 vs. Wyoming. Next up: Saturday vs. New Mexico.

14. Michigan State (1-0, 0-0 Big Ten, 0-1 ATS) The Spartans gutted out a tough win over Boise State. Neither offense was exceptional. Last week: W 17-13 vs. Boise State. Next up: Saturday at Central Michigan.

15. Kansas State (1-0, 0-0 Big 12, 1-0 ATS) Big day for the offense against a weak opponent, we learnt little last week. Last week: W 51-9 vs. Missouri State. Next up: Saturday vs. Miami (FL).

16. Nebraska (1-0, 0-0 Big Ten, 1-0 ATS) Finally, the Huskers have a passing game. This is going to be a fun battle for Big Ten supremacy. Last week: W 49-20 vs. Southern Miss. Next up: Saturday at UCLA.

17. Ohio State (1-0, 0-0 Big Ten, 1-0 ATS) It took a while but the Buckeyes finally got going against Miami (OH) and carried out a routine MAC-rifice. Last week: W 56-10 vs. Miami (OH). Next up: Saturday vs. UCF.

18. Oklahoma State (1-0, 0-0 Big 12, 1-0 ATS) The scary part of this score-line is that the Cowboys didn’t run up the score. They put 84 points on Savannah State using their back-ups’ back-ups for most of the game. Last week: W 84-0 vs. Savannah State. Next up: Saturday at Arizona.

19. Missouri (1-0, 0-0 SEC, 1-0 ATS) Welcome to the SEC Missouri. The Tigers host Georgia this Saturday. Last week: W 62-10 vs. Southeastern Louisiana. Next up: Saturday vs. Georgia.

20. Florida State (1-0, 0-0 ACC, 1-0 ATS) Destroyed a cupcake, they’ll do the same this weekend against Savannah State…yes the team Oklahoma State ripped. Last week: W 69-3 vs. Murray State. Next up: Saturday vs. Savannah State.

21. Wisconsin (1-0, 0-0 Big Ten, 0-1 ATS) Ummm what? Seriously, nothing about this result makes sense to me. The Badgers take a tumble for barely beating a FCS team. Last week: W 26-21 vs. Northern Iowa. Next up: Saturday at Oregon State.

22. Ohio (1-0, 0-0 MAC, 1-0 ATS) The Bobcats came back from 14-3 down to outplay the Nittany Lions in their house. Last week: W 24-14 at Penn State. Next up: Saturday vs. New Mexico State.

23. BYU (1-0, 1-0 ATS) That was some impressive stuff against Wazzu. This week should be a formality. Last week: W 30-6 vs. Washington State. Next up: Saturday vs. Weber State.

24. Stanford (1-0, 0-0 Pac-12, 0-1 ATS) Oh dear. This was not the start we envisioned. Could a home game with Duke really prove to be a trap game? Last week: W 20-17 vs. San Jose State. Next up: Saturday vs. Duke.

25. Notre Dame (1-0, 1-0 ATS) Yes Navy without Ricky Dobbs isn’t the same but this was still an impressive display by the Fighting Irish. The secondary worries me. Last week: W 50-10 vs. Navy. Next up: Saturday vs. Purdue.

Next Five Out: Baylor, Louisville, Mississippi State, Nevada, UCLA.
