That Golden State is battling for the West’s best record (with Denver) is absolutely no surprise. That Utah is below .500 and near the bottom of the conference standings very much is. The Jazz reportedly are active in trade talks around the league – Chicago’s Jabari Parker has been mentioned — in looking for offensive help as too often second-year Donovan Mitchell has to carry too big of a load in that regard. This team is too talented to miss the postseason, but the West is ridiculously tough.

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Warriors lost three of four meetings with Utah last season but won the first this year, 124-123 in Salt Lake City on Oct. 19. Former Jazz big man Jonas Jerebko tipped in the winning basket with 0.3 seconds remaining. Kevin Durant, who had 38 points, had just missed a jumper. Steph Curry added 31 points for the Warriors.

Aussie Joe Ingles (a former member of Golden State’s Summer League squad) led Utah with 27 points and Rudy Gobert had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Mitchell was just 7-for-23 shooting for 19 points. Utah is 67-24 all-time against Golden State at home

The Jazz visit Oakland on Feb. 12 to close the season series. The home team is 4-1 ATS in the past five meetings.

Golden State Warriors

The Warriors won their second in a row Monday, 110-93 over Memphis, which was missing excellent point guard Mike Conley due to injury (not that it likely would have mattered). Curry had 20 points and became the fifth Warriors players in franchise history to reach 15,000 career points, joining Wilt Chamberlain, Rick Barry, Paul Arizin and Chris Mullin. Durant had 23 and passed a guy by the name of Larry Bird for 33rd place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. Two key Warriors reserves returned from injury on Monday. Andre Iguodala had missed three games (hip) and had 10 points and five rebounds, and Shaun Livingston (pelvis) had missed one and had two points and two assists. Golden State is still just 2-8 ATS in its past 10 vs. the West.

Utah Jazz

Utah just can’t seem to put it together as it lost for the fourth time in five games Monday, 102-97 in Houston. The Jazz couldn’t slow James Harden – few can – as he had 47 points. Mitchell had 22 points but was 8-for-22 shooting. Gobert is a double-double machine and had another one with 18 points and 13 rebounds. The Jazz, though, lack perimeter shooting and hit just 39 per cent overall and 28.6 from deep. They also turned the ball over 24 times. Utah is 4-1-1 ATS in its past six after a loss.
