Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Trail Blazers opened as 2-point home favourites against the Raptors on the Sports Interaction NBA odds board. The total is listed at 215.5.

Portland, coming off its win on Saturday against the Phoenix Suns, is 4-2 straight up, 3-2-1 ATS and the under is 4-2 in its six games this season. Toronto improved to 3-2 SU, 4-1 ATS after winning and covering against the Lakers in Los Angeles on Friday night.

The Dinos have pasted Portland in each of their last four matchups but the Blazers are 4-2 ATS in the last six meetings between the two sides. The over is 6-2 in the last eight games between the Raps and Blazers but only one of those previous eight matchups had a total as high as 215.5.

Raptors

Head coach Dwane Casey had to get creative with his starting lineup when his top two centers, Jonas Valanciunas and Lucas Nogueira, went down to injury. He decided to insert Pascal Siakam as the starting power forward and slide Serge Ibaka over to the pivot position.

The decision proved to be a wise one as Siakam produced a career-high 20 points against the Golden State Warriors and then followed it up with 18 points and five rebounds in a win over the Lakers.

Siakam started 38 games at power forward as a rookie last year for the team before ceding the spot when the Raptors acquired Ibaka from the Orlando Magic. Siakam is hitting his shots (.667 FG%) and is even displaying an ability to hit from distance.

The Raptors expect to have Valanciunas back after a three-game absence, but the big man might have to surrender some of his minutes if Casey plans on keeping Siakam in the playing rotation.

Blazers

Portland is second in the league in net rating – a statistic which measures a team’s point differential per 100 possessions – at +11.9 but the number is skewed by a 48-point win over the Suns in its first game of the season.

The Blazers need star point guard Damian Lillard to find his shot again. Lillard is shooting a career-worst .370 from the field and made just seven of his 21 shot attempts Saturday night against Phoenix.
