Madison Square Garden hosts two 4-3 teams on Wednesday night as the New York Knicks look to extend their perfect home start against a Minnesota Timberwolves squad finishing a three-game road stretch. The Knicks have won four straight at home to open the season, all by eight points or more, and appear to be settling into their deepened rotation. 

Minnesota, meanwhile, has yet to prove it can beat top-tier competition through seven games. Injuries hover over this matchup with Anthony Edwards listed as questionable for the Wolves, as he has basically missed the last five games due to a hamstring injury (injured three minutes into win against Pacers), while Karl-Anthony Towns is a game-time decision for New York.

Timberwolves vs. Knicks NBA Betting Odds

New York is favoured at home at -3.5 on the NBA odds. The Knicks sit at -170 on the moneyline, while the Wolves are +140 to win outright. The total is 227.5, slightly shaded to the Over (-115). Bettors should note Minnesota’s rough start against the spread (2-5 ATS), with both covers coming in their last two games – wins over the 3-5 Hornets and 0-7 Nets. 

The Knicks are 4-0 ATS at MSG, defeating the Wizards, Bulls, Celtics, and Cavaliers by comfortable margins.

Minnesota Timberwolves

Minnesota comes off a 125-109 victory in Brooklyn on Monday, where Donte DiVincenzo, Jaden McDaniels, and Naz Reid all posted 20+ points. That win notched their first string of wins this season after a shaky stretch that included two losses to the Lakers and one to the Nuggets (the only playoff-level teams Minnesota has faced so far). 

The Wolves have yet to cover against any opponent projected to finish near the top of the standings. Edwards could return from a hamstring injury suffered on Oct. 26, but even if he plays, expectations are that he will be less than 100 per cent. Minnesota enters with the ninth-ranked offence but a concerning 22nd-ranked defence.

New York Knicks

The Knicks have been one of the league’s most reliable home teams again. They handled the Wizards 119-102 on Monday with Towns leading the way at 33 points, while Jalen Brunson posted a season-low 16 in what felt like a mental rest night for some of the stars. New York has also beaten the 6-1 Bulls at home after dropping one in Chicago. 

Brunson leads the Knicks in scoring at 29.0 points per game and 5.6 assists, with Towns controlling the glass at 13.1 rebounds per night. OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges provide two-way scoring depth, while Jordan Clarkson and Landry Shamet further strengthen New York’s role player unit. The Knicks enter this matchup 13th in offensive rating and 12th on defence, while ranking first in defensive rebounding percentage.

NBA Prediction: Who Will Win Timberwolves vs. Knicks?

Minnesota has a shooting-efficiency edge and defends the arc well, but its inability to beat, or even cover, against elite teams is hard to ignore. The Knicks protect home court, dominate the glass, and remain lethal from three. 

DiVincenzo has hit 3+ threes in six straight and faces a defence that is 27th in three-point attempts allowed at home and is allowing opponents to shoot just under 40 per cent from long range.
