Houston Rockets vs. Los Angeles Lakers Game 2 Prediction, NBA Playoff Odds

Game 2 of the Western Conference playoff series between the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Lakers is set for Tuesday night at Crypto.com Arena in L.A.

The Lakers are looking to seize complete control of this first-round matchup after winning the opener 107-98 this past Saturday. Rockets star forward Kevin Durant missed Game 1 with a knee injury that he sustained in a recent practice.

Los Angeles leads the overall 2025-26 head-to-head series 3-1, having taken two of three from Houston during the regular season. The Lakers lost at home on Christmas Day but bounced back for eight-point road victories on March 16 (100-92) and March 18 (124-116).

The Rockets are 4.5-point favourites to win on the NBA odds, with the total set at 207.5.

Rockets vs. Lakers NBA Betting Odds

This marks the fourth time in five meetings this season that Houston has been favoured. It was priced at -2 or -2.5 on three previous occasions, while Los Angeles was a -1 road favourite on March 16 – when the Rockets were without starting centre Alperen Sengun. Saturday’s game total was 208.5, but the number has dropped to 205.5 on the heels of that low-scoring affair.

The Rockets 9-16 ATS in their last 25 overall and 2-9 ATS in their last 11 on the road. The Lakers are 4-0 ATS in their last four games and 6-2 ATS in the last eight head-to-head matchups. As for the over/under, the under is 3-0 in L.A.’s last three overall and 3-1 in the last four meetings between these two teams. However, the over is 6-2 in Houston’s last eight.

Houston Rockets

Durant is currently listed as questionable for Tuesday’s contest and could be a game-time decision after warming up. As the -4.5 spread in Houston’s favour suggests, however, Durant is expected to play. After all, this is a borderline must-win situation for the visitors. They can’t really afford to fall behind 2-0 in the series by losing two straight games against a Los Angeles squad that is without Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.

The Rockets really should have won Game 1. They dominated the rebounding battle 44 to 35, including 21 offensive rebounds to the Lakers’ three. Houston attempted a ridiculous 27 more shots than L.A. (93 to 66) but made only 35 (38 per cent), including 11 of 33 from three-point range.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers’ own uncertainty lingers, as Doncic (hamstring) and Reaves (oblique) have no timetables for their respective returns. They could miss this entire first-round series. Neither has played since April 2.

Luke Kennard stepped up in a huge way during Game 1. The Duke product scored a game-high 27 points on a 9-for-13 effort from the field, including 5-for-5 from downtown. All five starters scored at least 14 points, including LeBron James with 19 points, 13 assists, eight rebounds and two steals.

NBA Prediction: Who Will Win Rockets vs. Lakers Game 2?

Even without Durant, the Rockets should have won Game 1. The Lakers shot 61 per cent from the floor and 53 percent from three-point range – numbers that cannot be expected to repeat given that their season-long percentages were 50.2 and 32.9, respectively. Houston should prevail on Tuesday, but covering a -4.5 spread on the road with Durant either sidelined or less than 100 percent may be too much to ask. It also goes without saying that you should tread lightly on this game until Durant’s status is confirmed. For now, let’s go with Rockets 107, Lakers 104.
