The Toronto Raptors made their week interesting, let’s say, when they acquired Brandan Ingram from the New Orleans Pelicans at the trade deadline. That said, the forward is injured (ankle) and won’t play. Toronto was in Oklahoma City on Friday when Shai Gilgeous Alexander and the Thunder beat them 121-109. The Houston Rockets were in Dallas on Saturday to contend with the new-look Mavericks and lost 116-105.

Our NBA odds view the Rockets as considerable -10.5 favourites.

Raptors vs. Rockets NBA Betting Odds

Sunday’s match concludes the season series between these clubs. The Rockets visited the Raptors just before Christmas and earned a 114-110 victory. That the Texas-based side has captured two of the past three meetings is an indication that the franchise is turning things around, especially since the Raptors had ridden a four-game winning streak before.

It’s tempting to say that Toronto is a good bet as +10.5 underdogs since their tally against the spread this season is 30-21-1. Then again, they were +10.5 at home to the Memphis Grizzlies last week and were pancaked 138-107. Also of note is that the Raptors are one of only four clubs to have earned a quartet of wins away from home this season (they’re 4-20 on their travels). Jakob Poeltl (hip) and RJ Barrett (concussion) are listed as out.

Houston needs to figure things out. They were flying high up until a few weeks ago and fought for one of the top seeds in the Western Conference. A six-game slide dropped them to fifth. Houston is nearly as good a proposition as Toronto ATS this season, given their honourable 29-22-1 record. They also lost twice to a mediocre Brooklyn Nets operation during the skid, so there’s hope for the Raps. Injuries to Fred VanVleet (ankle) and Jabari Smith Jr. (fractured hand) aren’t helping.

Toronto Raptors

Toronto got a taste of its own medicine, so to speak, on Friday. Torontonian superstar and possible MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 25 points to help his Thunder to tame the Raptors 121-109.

All told, it wasn’t an awful performance by the Raptors. It was thhe first quarter that sunk them. Toronto lost it 35-25. When you consider that they ended up losing by 12, one can surmise that they stabilized the ship the rest of the way. But that also played into OKC’s hand since the latter is simply the more talented, confident group. Putting a roster like theirs in a position of comfort where they can coast is never a good idea.

The game in the paint was lopsided, with the Raptors conceding 60 points in that area and scoring only 34. No wonder they allowed the Thunder to finish the evening with 51.2 efficiency from the floor despite hitting only 9 of 31 shots from beyond the arc.

Scottie Barnes led the side with 21 points, followed by Gradey Dick’s 17. Immanuel Quickley had 10 assists but registered only six points.

Houston Rockets

The bleeding continued on Saturday for the Rockets, who tussled with the Mavericks in Dallas and the latter’s new weapon, Anthony Davis. Alas, it ended in a 116-105 defeat.

Houston had to surmount a 21-point disadvantage at one point, which is not a gameplan for success. To their credit, the Rockets made it a one-point contest in the third quarter when it felt as though the tide was turning. But that was as close as they would ever get again.

Alperen Sengun had a game-high 30 points and added eight rebounds. Jalen Green performed some emphatic dunks en route to a 24-point afternoon. Amen Thompson continues to develop into a fine weapon. He added 20 points, far above his season average of 13.9.
