NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Rock bottom for the Raptors this season was certainly last Monday’s loss at Houston, which entered on a 20-game losing streak that was one of the NBA’s 10 longest ever. Second place for rock bottom perhaps would be Toronto being swept 3-0 by the Eastern Conference-worst Detroit Pistons, but that’s on the line Monday. You may remember that the 2018-19 eventual champion Raptors were somehow swept 3-0 by Detroit as well. Maybe it’s a Dwane Casey thing.
Wayne Ellington scored 25 points in his one game vs. Toronto this year and Jerami Grant 23. Good-looking rookie Saddiq Bey is averaging 17.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in the two games. Norman Powell is averaging 39.5 points in the two against Detroit with games of 43 and 36 points. Chris Boucher is averaging 19.5 points and 6.5 rebounds, and Kyle Lowry 14.5 points and 10.5 assists. Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet missed one game each and OG Anunoby both.
The teams have split the past 10 regular-season meetings overall and the Raptors are 4-6 against the spread.
Toronto Raptors
Kyle Lowry was a surprise scratch Sunday with a sore foot but is likely to play here – obviously that needs to be monitored. The Dinos lost without him 122-117 at home to ex-Raptor Norman Powell and the Portland Trail Blazers. Powell had 13 points in 27 minutes. Pascal Siakam led Toronto with 26 points, while Fred VanVleet had 20 and eight assists. However, Gary Trent Jr. struggled in his second game with the team, shooting just 2-for-10 for six points. Fellow former Trail Blazer Rodney Hood had 13 points off the bench. Toronto had just 10 third-quarter points and was 4-for-22 in the quarter with five turnovers. The Raptors are 2-6 ATS in their past eight in the second of a back-to-back.
Detroit Pistons
Detroit is on a four-game skid after a 106-92 loss in Washington on Saturday – the team made one deal ahead of last Thursday’s trade deadline, shipping out point guard and former Raptor Delon Wright to the Kings for guard Cory Joseph and two second-round picks. Joseph had eight points in 29 minutes off the bench vs. the Wizards. Reserve Rodney McGruder missed it with an elbow injury and is not expected Monday. Hamidou Diallo and Dennis Smith Jr. are in question. Leading scorer Jerami Grant left Saturday’s victory with a thigh bruise but is expected to go Monday. He averages 23.0 points. The Pistons are 6-2 ATS in their past eight after a loss. Detroit has 56-38 all-time record against the Raptors with a 30-19 home record.
