On Saturday the Toronto Raptors made their inaugural visit to the Clippers’ Intuit Dome, the latter club’s newly minted home court. Darko Rajakovic’s group played about as good a game as one can without actually coming out with the W, as they fell 105-103. The Lakers were in action on Friday night at home to a beleaguered Philadelphia 76ers squad and took care of business 116-106.

Our NBA odds envision that Los Angeles will earn the spoils and have pegged the Lakers as -10.5 favourites.

Raptors vs. Lakers NBA Betting Odds

It was nearly two years ago when the Raptors last defeated the Lakers. December 2022 was a different epoch for Toronto, who still had Pascal Siakam, Fred VanVleet, and OG Anunoby on their roster. Since then, L.A. has claimed four straight wins over the Canadian club. These teams will already wrap up the season series as they contested on Nov. 1 in Ontario, with the Lakers besting the Raps 131-125.

Toronto isn’t a trustworthy consideration on the moneyline, not with a 2-8 outright tally. That said, against the spread, the Raptors have been incredible through 10 games, sporting the opposite record of 8-2. The NBA oddsmakers don’t give them much respect, with many +8s, +9s, or worse, yet the Raptors keep games close. Of note, Toronto is the league’s sixth-highest-scoring side, with 116.5 per game. They also have great ball distribution, ranking third in assists with 30.1 a game.

The Los Angeles Lakers have cooled off a bit since their 3-0 start to the season. They have since gone 2-4, although their resplendent 4-0 home record speaks for itself. Prior to covering the spread on Friday with Philly, they had failed to cover four times in a row, hence the 5-4 ATS tally. Anthony Davis, despite missing a match, still leads the NBA in points per game with 32.4.

Toronto Raptors

Toronto is in a precarious position. They aren’t winning many games, yet they’re regularly showing that they have a decent roster that can keep them in games. It feels like results could tilt either way with this group.

There was no better example of this than Saturday night versus the L.A. Clippers. Every time James Harden and company – Harden didn’t have a great game, by the way – looked to deliver a knockout blow, the Raptors refused to stay on the mat. Their fourth quarter push (they won the final period 33-24) made the ending thrilling to watch unfold. Down three with only seconds remaining, Jakob Poeltl was sent to the line, where he made one attempt, missed the next one, and grabbed his own rebound, but the final shot clanked off the rim.

Having Immanuel Quickley back from injury makes all the difference for this offence’s fluidity. He and Ochai Agbaji scored 21 points. Chris Boucher continues to prove his value, contributing 14 points off the bench. One anticipates what this team will be like with everyone, including Scottie Barnes, is locked and ready.

Los Angeles Lakers

Coming back to Crypto.com Arena made for some good home cooking on Friday against the ailing 76ers.

It was the sort of game that never became a blowout but never got terribly close, either. Philly isn’t a great side these days, not with two of their three stars injured (Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey). The Lakers were more than happy to take advantage of the circumstances, with Davis going for 31 points, LeBron James adding 21 (most in the second half), and Austin Reaves coasting to 2o points. D’Angelo Russell, forever a hot and cold player, was cooking. He put up 18 off the bench in 25 minutes.

The Lakers’ last three wins have come against average-to-poor opposition, including Toronto over a week ago. They can handle the easy stuff, but it remains to be seen if they are a strong contender in the West this season.
