Boston is a double-digit home favourite on the NBA odds.

Nets vs. Celtics NBA Betting Odds

At this point in the season, maybe two-thirds of the league is playing for something and the rest not much. You could argue both Brooklyn and Boston are in that latter spot. The rebuilding Nets will miss the playoffs as was always expected under first-year coach Jordi Fernandez. They could be one of the busier teams this offseason via trades with a bevy of future first-round picks and a coveted player in Cameron Johnson. It was moderately surprising Johnson wasn’t dealt at February’s trade deadline. The Nets already have shut down leading scorer Cam Thomas (24.0 PPG) for the season.

Boston doesn’t have much to play for because it has clinched a playoff spot and basically is locked into the Eastern Conference’s No. 2 seed behind Cleveland and the NBA’s No. 3 overall seed behind the Cavs and Oklahoma City (in whichever order those two conference leaders finish). So it’s much more important for the Celtics over the next month to keep guys healthy rather than win games.

The Celtics try for the four-game season sweep of the Nets – two were very close, including Saturday’s matchup — and have won the past seven in the series overall. Boston All-Star Jayson Tatum is averaging 29.7 points in the season series and likely NBA Sixth Man of the Year Payton Pritchard 21.7 points.

Brooklyn Nets

Brooklyn was an 11.5-point home underdog on Saturday against Boston and lost 115-113, but the Nets then played again Sunday and snapped a three-game skid with a 122-114 win over visiting Atlanta behind 28 points from Cam Johnson (mentioned above) and 22 from Keon Johnson. The Nets trailed by eight late in the third but took control with an extended 31-12 run that spanned into the fourth. Atlanta was 10-for-28 from deep in the first three quarters and 1-for-9 in the fourth.

Brooklyn is a pretty good defensive team ranking sixth in opponents’ field-goal percentage (40.3). Starting guard D’Angelo Russell (13.3 PPG) and forward Ziaire Williams (10.0 PPG, 4.8 RPG) both sat out Sunday, but likely only as it was the second of a back-to-back. Tyrese Martin (16 points) and Jalen Wilson (13 points) started in their spots. The Nets have lost six straight road games but have tied their 2023-24 total of 12 away victories.

Boston Celtics

Boston won for the seventh time in eight games Saturday with that 115-113 victory in Brooklyn but unlike the Nets haven’t played since, so it’s a true home-and-home set for the Celtics. Centre Kristaps Porzingis returned from an eight-game absence due to illness and had 24 points, while Payton Pritchard added 22 and Jayson Tatum 20 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Pritchard set the NBA single-season record during the game with his 219th 3-pointer off the bench and leads all NBA reserves this season in points (947), three-pointers (220) and plus/minus (+348). The Celtics rested Derrick White and Al Horford and then lost All-Star Jaylen Brown in the second half after he left with back spasms.

If this were a big game, we’d say unlikely that Brown sits but there’s no point in pushing him. The Celtics are 32-3 this season when shooting a better per centage from the field than their opponents. The under is 5-1 in Boston’s past six at home vs. Brooklyn.
