NBA: Los Angeles Lakers at Denver Nuggets

After one of the biggest NBA trades in years, Luka Doncic will get his first crack at his former team when the Los Angeles Lakers host the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night.

Mavericks fans were raging after the team surprisingly swapped Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis (along with other draft picks and players from both teams), so they might want to cover their eyes on Tuesday night. Doncic is coming off his best performance in a Lakers uniform in a 123-100 blowout win in Denver on Saturday night, while Dallas was crushed 126-102 in Golden State on Sunday.

L.A. is a 9.5-point favourite to win on the NBA odds, with the total pegged at 233.5.

Mavericks vs. Lakers NBA Betting Odds

The Mavericks struck first in the season series, winning 118-97 at home in early January. Doncic missed the game due to injury, while Davis scored a team-high 21 points. Regardless of the outcome on Tuesday, people will be quick to look ahead to Doncic’s return to Dallas on April 9.

The trends point toward L.A. winning this game. Not only have the Lakers won 12 of their last 15 games overall (and seven of eight at home), but Dallas has lost four of their last five on the road.

Both teams have been decent cover options this season, with L.A. going 30-24-1 against the spread, while the Mavs are 29-26-3 ATS. Keep in mind, Dallas has covered in 13 of the last 15 head-to-heads between these teams.

The Over/Under has split fairly evenly for both teams this year. You might want to err on the side of caution in this game, however, as the total has gone Under in seven of the last eight head-to-heads.

Dallas Mavericks

To add insult to injury (literally) when it comes to the Doncic-Davis trade, Mavs fans have only seen Davis suit up once and likely won’t see him again anytime soon. The 31-year-old dropped 26 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists in his Dallas debut, but left early with a left adductor injury and he hasn’t played since. It has to be massively concerning for the fanbase considering Davis is on the wrong side of 30 and he already had a reputation as a player who just can’t stay healthy.

While Davis remains out, you might want to circle the Over on Kyrie Irving‘s point total against the Lakers. Irving has hit the 30-point mark in three of his last four games and he’ll be up against an L.A. squad that has struggled to defend guards all year.

Los Angeles Lakers

After averaging just 14.7 points in his first three games for the Lakers, Doncic finally had a breakout performance with a game-high 32 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists against Denver. It seemed like only a matter of time before the 25-year-old started to gel with the team as this is still the same player who averaged 28.1 points per game in 22 appearances with Dallas this season.

With Doncic clearly driving L.A.’s success now, you might want to consider fading LeBron James. The four-time NBA champion had a solid performance with 25 points on Saturday, but James has finished with under 15.5 combined rebounds and assists in three of four games he has played with Doncic.
