Magic vs. Raptors NBA Betting Odds

The Orlando Magic entered this season with three straight losing campaigns, missing the playoffs in each, but both of those will change – although the team might have to go through the Eastern Conference play-in tournament to officially reach the postseason. Currently it sits fifth in the East but not far ahead of No. 7 Indiana.

Rather surprising that such a downtrodden franchise didn’t do anything ahead of the Trade Deadline to boost those playoff hopes, but perhaps the front office didn’t want to give up any young talent or draft picks as it is a team on the rise, and Orlando isn’t winning anything this year. Just think how good this team might be right now if Scottie Barnes had fallen to No. 5 in the 2021 draft to Orlando instead of being scooped up at No. 4 by Toronto. The Magic took guard Jalen Suggs at No. 5, and he’s a solid player but not in Barnes’ class.

Orlando leads the season series 1-0 thanks to a 126-107 victory on Nov. 21. Former No. 1 overall pick and reigning NBA Rookie of the Year Paolo Banchero had 25 points and Suggs 18. Toronto shot 50.7 per cent from the field but had 23 turnovers – including 12 steals by the Magic. The teams play again Sunday in central Florida, and that concludes the season series.

Toronto leads all-time 57-43 and 32-19 at home, taking the past two there.

Orlando Magic

Orlando snapped a two-game skid with a 114-106 home win over Brooklyn on Wednesday; the Magic have been very good in beating teams with losing records this season. Paolo Banchero was great against the Nets in hitting 6-for-6 from the field and 8-for-9 from the free-throw line for 21 points to go with nine assists. He has become one of the better passing big guys in the league, averaging 5.3 assists per game. The team’s two starting guards, Markelle Fultz and Jalen Suggs, both returned after missing at least one game. They are good players, but Orlando isn’t taking another leap until it upgrades in the backcourt. Led by Banchero and Franz Wagner, the frontcourt is in good shape. Orlando is 16-19 this season on the road, already two more wins away than last season. The team is 9-9 in games decided by five points or fewer. The Magic are 6-2 ATS in their past eight.

Toronto Raptors

Due to injury, the only usual starter in the Toronto lineup to conclude a four-game trip on Wednesday in Detroit was Immanuel Quickley, and the Raptors lost their fifth in a row, 113-104 to lose the season series to one of the NBA’s worst teams. So that might have been rock bottom for this season regarding the Dinos. Quickley had 25 points and eight assists, Kelly Olynyk 19 points, eight assists and six rebounds, and Bruce Brown 17 points, five assists and four rebounds. The other two starter, Gradey Dick and Ochai Agbaji, totaled nine points on 16 shots. Quickley has scored at least 20 points in 14-of-30 games with Toronto, something he did just eight times in 30 games with New York. Starting to look as if maybe the Raptors won that OG Anunoby trade. RJ Barrett will remain out Friday for personal reasons. Gary Trent Jr. might return as he’s questionable. Even so short-handed of late, at least five Raptors have scored in double figures in 10 straight games, matching their longest such streak of the season. Toronto is 2-6 ATS in its past eight.
