Toronto opened as short favourites on the NBA odds despite still missing arguably their two best players.

Magic vs. Raptors NBA Betting Odds

At full strength, Orlando could be one of the four best teams in the Eastern Conference, and this is a young roster that should only get better. Jamahl Mosley is among the Coach of the Year favourites. However, the club isn’t whole right now with former No. 1 overall pick and NBA Rookie of the Year Paolo Banchero and rising star Franz Wagner both out with oblique injuries. Banchero has been out since late October but is getting closer to a return – it just won’t be Friday.

Whenever the Magic face the Raptors, we always have to go back to the 2021 NBA Draft. Toronto picked fourth that year in Round 1 and took Scottie Barnes out of Florida State. That was a home-run choice. Orlando picked fifth and took guard Jalen Suggs out of Gonzaga. For a while there, it looked like that wasn’t a wise pick, but Suggs has raised his game this season. The Raptors did get it right, though, in taking Barnes.

This is the first of four meetings this season between the franchises. Orlando won all three last season, but the Dinos still lead 57-45 all-time and 32-20 at home. The Magic are 7-3 ATS in the past 10 meetings and the over-under is 4-6 in those.

Orlando Magic

Orlando largely wins with defence anyways but really has to shine on that end with leading scorers Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner both out injured as we mentioned above. Points have been tough to come by of late and why Orlando has lost three of four following a 105-96 loss in Detroit on Wednesday. Jalen Suggs led the club with 24 points, while fellow guard Anthony Black was out with back spasms and is day-to-day. Orlando is 11-7 this season in games decided by 10 points or more (11 such wins are eighth in the league) and 7-3 in games decided by five points or fewer. When the team scores at least 100 points, it is 17-5. When scoring at least 110 points, the record is 12-2. When shooting at least 50 per cent from the field, the Magic are 5-1. They are 1-4 ATS in their past five games.

Toronto Raptors

The Raptors haven’t won back-to-back games since early December and just twice all season but have a chance for a third after a 130-113 home win over Brooklyn on Wednesday to snap an 11-game losing streak. Scottie Barnes had 33 points, 13 rebounds and five assists, and guard Immanuel Quickley returned after missing 22 games with a torn ligament in his left elbow and had 21 points and 15 assists. It was Barnes’ eighth career 30/10/5 game, which is third-most in franchise history behind Pascal Siakam (16) and Vince Carter (10). Toronto shot a season-high 59.1 per cent (52-for-88) from the field and a season-high 50 per cent from deep despite playing without leading scorer RJ Barrett due to illness. He’s day-to-day. The Dinos are now 5-4 this season when hitting at least half their shots from the field and 118-25 all-time when shooting 50 per cent from the field, including from three-point range. Toronto is 9-2 in the past 11 at home vs. Orlando.
