Orlando Magic vs. Los Angeles Lakers Prediction, NBA Odds
The Orlando Magic (30-26, seventh in East) remain in Los Angeles to play the Lakers (34-22, fifth in West) at 10:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday. The Magic just defeated the Clippers at Intuit Dome on Sunday, 111-109, thanks to a blistering shooting day from wing Desmond Bane, who dropped 36 points. The Lakers, meanwhile, were blown out Sunday night by their historic rival, the Boston Celtics, 111-89.
These squads haven’t met yet this season, and this will be the first of two meetings when they reunite in Orlando on March 21. With both teams searching for consistency or even a hot stretch of play, this clash of styles sets up as appointment television tonight.
Magic vs. Lakers NBA Betting Odds
Here are the latest NBA odds for today’s tilt in Los Angeles:
- Point Spread: Magic +6.5 (-110) vs. Lakers -6.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Magic (+205) vs. Lakers (-250)
- Point Total (Over/Under): Over 228.5 (-110) / Under 228.5 (-110)
The Lakers have been solid at home overall (better on the road) and especially against teams outside the West’s elite. The Magic have mostly struggled away from home, posting a 12-16 record. However, all three games since the break have come on the road, and two have been victories, and the other was an overtime loss. Orlando’s road underdog performances have been competitive this season, but LA’s offensive firepower is likely to be a key driver of the line.
A key stat to note here is that these are the top two teams in the NBA in free-throw attempt rate, which could mean a lot of points getting added with the clock stopped. It’s not too surprising that on the totals side, both teams play in games that have cashed the Over more times than not this season (combined 60-52).
Orlando Magic
In the halfcourt, the Magic’s offensive identity is built on taking care of the rock, working the clock, pounding it inside, and scoring in the paint or getting to the free-throw line. Otherwise, this team is looking to create and score off turnovers in transition. The Magic are also an excellent defensive rebounding team.
Forward Paolo Banchero remains the team’s alpha, averaging 21.5 PPG with playmaking and physicality that translates well against slower frontcourts. Franz Wagner, the other star, has been out for some time and will continue to be out until March 11. Bane joins Banchero, averaging over 20 PPG, and Anthony Black, Jalen Suggs, and Wendell Carter Jr. also add double-figure scoring.
Orlando’s recent form has been mixed. While the Magic have shown flashes against higher-tier opponents, they haven’t sustained enough runs to climb the standings. For this road test, the lack of interior defence (20th in paint points allowed) and their handsy, foul-heavy aggression (27th in free-throw attempts allowed) could be magnified against a Lakers squad that dominates the paint and free-throw line.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers enter at 34-22, well-positioned in the Western Conference with a balance of experience and talent. They finally have Austin Reaves, Luka Doncic, LeBron James, Marcus Smart, and Deandre Ayton all healthy and playing together.
Los Angeles’ strength on both ends has improved dramatically with health. Despite suspect defence, the Lakers have one of the better defensive rebounding rates and limit free throws, choosing to play defence without fouling. Now, like the Magic, the Lakers are susceptible to paint points, so this game could come down to who has a better shooting day inside the arc.
NBA Prediction: Who Will Win Magic vs. Lakers?
Los Angeles’ star power should overwhelm, and they should be able to control this matchup from the outset. While Orlando is capable of pulling off an upset in spots, especially if Banchero gets going inside, the Lakers have too much offensively. LA imposes its will and gets to the charity stripe plenty at home, separating itself down the stretch.
Best Bet: Lakers -6.5 (-110)
