NBA: Los Angeles Lakers at Houston Rockets

The Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks meet on Tuesday night in a matchup between two Western Conference clubs with identical records, but currently trending in different directions.

The Lakers are 7-3 in their last 10 and sit in fifth in the Western Conference entering Tuesday.

Dallas has dropped five straight games, and six of their last seven since Christmas — the day Luka Doncic got injured. The Mavericks continue to take the court without leading scorers Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Doncic remains out with a calf injury, but news of a back injury for Irving has suffered, and an injury that will keep him out for at least the next two weeks.

Tip-off at American Airlines Center is set for 7:30 p.m. EST with the Lakers a 6.5-point road favourite and the over-under at 218.5 on the NBA odds.

Lakers vs. Mavericks NBA Betting Odds

Dallas is both 0-5 outright and against the spread in their last five times taking the court. But everything seems to change when the Lakers roll into town, although this time around both Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving will be absent for Dallas. The Lakers are 2-7 overall in their last nine trips to play the Mavericks, and Dallas is 10-12 ATS in their last 12 versus the Lakers. Tuesday’s the first of three regular season meetings between the Lakers and Mavericks.

L.A. Is 14-4 outright as a favourite this season. The Lakers are also 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall, and 4-1 ATS in their last five road outings. Five of the last seven have gone over for L.A.

Los Angeles Lakers

Sunday’s loss at Houston was just the Lakers fourth loss in the last month. Having both LeBron James and Anthony Davis healthy and producing has allowed L.A. to ascend into the top five seeds in the Western Conference but as shown on Sunday, it takes both these stars for the Lakers to win. James finished with 21 points, including 16 in the second half, but L.A. had already fallen behind 67-49 by halftime. James finished an assist shy of his 121st triple-double, which has him ranked fifth all-time in that category.

Tuesday is the final road game for L.A. before a five-game homestand, making this matchup at Dallas a big opportunity for the Lakers to build another streak and climb the West’s standings. And if the Lakers are to steal a rare road win, it’ll be because of their consistent scoring. L.A.’s reached at least 110 points in seven straight outings.

Dallas Mavericks

It’s nothing shocking, but the Mavericks are finding out the hard way how it is to compete to 110 points in games without Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Dallas’ opponents have cracked 110 in all five of the Mavericks consecutive defeats, including a 119-104 loss at Memphis on Monday. P.J. Washington led Dallas yesterday with 17 points and 10 rebounds, his first double-double since the end of November.

Injuries keep coming for the Mavericks as centre Daniel Gafford exited the loss with an ankle injury. Gafford’s injury made Dallas smaller off the bench, and guard Jaden Hardy in particular thrived in that role with 15 points in 21 minutes. Look for Hardy to get more playing time in this back-to-back spot, especially for a Mavericks team in need of consistent scorers. Hardy’s hit double digits in three straight games.
