The Lakers are coming off a decisive 130-114 win over the visiting Atlanta Hawks on Friday night, and now hit the road riding a 3-1 run in their past four away contests. The Kings have been idle since Wednesday’s 120-117 loss to the Hawks, which marked their fourth defeat in seven home contests.

The Kings have improved to 8.5-point favourites on the NBA odds since opening at -8 despite attracting the support of just 29 per cent of sports bettors. The total has dipped to 242.0 since opening at 244, with the UNDER attracting a sizeable 78 per cent of the betting action.

Saturday night’s matchup at Golden 1 Center marks the third of four regular season meetings between these Pacific Division rivals. The Kings rolled to a 134-120 victory when they visited LA for their most recent date with the Lakers back on December 21, and have now won and covered in three straight head-to-head clashes, including two straight on home hardwood.

However, Sacramento has not recorded three straight home victories over the Lakers since 2016. These teams have run up the score in recent dates, averaging 241.3 points per game during a steady 4-0 run for the OVER.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers supporting cast finally stepped up their offensive contributions over the past two games, taking the burden of carrying the team off LeBron James. King James emerged as the lone bright spot on an otherwise middling Lakers attack in the wake of an injury that has sidelined Anthony Davis since mid-December. However, with James sidelined by an illness in Wednesday’s date with the Miami Heat, the Lakers received contributions from down the lineup.

Veteran point guard Dennis Schroder topped the list of three players to score at least 20 points, draining a season-high 32 points and followed up with 21 points in Friday’s win over the Hawks. Russell Westbrook also continued his steady play off the bench, tallying 21 points against Miami and contributing 18 points and 11 rebounds on Friday night for his second double-double in five games.

James showed little ill effect from his recent illness while picking up 25 points in his return against Atlanta. And while the Lakers have lost four of five this season when playing in the back half of games played on back-to-back nights, James has averaged 31 points while appearing in three of these contests.

Sacramento Kings

The Kings’ struggles to contain opposing shooters continued with Wednesday’s 120-117 loss to Atlanta. Overall, the club has now surrendered 120 or more points in eight of their past 12 outings, and 120.5 points per game over that stretch. In addition to fuelling their current 3-4 straight up run at home, the Kings’ porous has contributed to their worrisome 5-10 run against the spread in their past 15 overall contests.

Fortunately, the Kings maintain the NBA’s second-ranked offence, which trails only Boston with 117.9 points per game. Point guard De’Aaron Fox has continued to lead the Kings’ charge. Fox has averaged 27 points per game while racking up team highs in each of the Kings’ past three outings, as well as 27.3 points per game over his past seven home appearances.

Big man Domantas Sabonis has remained a force under the basket, averaging 14.9 boards per game over his past 15 outings, and has also contributed 23.6 points per game over his past five outings.
