THUNDER JAZZ

An OKC first-round loss all but assures Paul George will bolt in free agency and will cement Utah rookie Donovan Mitchell’s place in NBA playoff folklore.

Legacies are on the line on Wednesday night when the Jazz return to Oklahoma City with a chance to knockout the much-hyped but underachieving Thunder.

NBA Playoffs Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Utah improved to 3-1 straight up and against the spread in the playoffs and the club is 6-2 ATS in its last eight games overall. The Jazz have won 32 of their last 39 games dating back to the end of January.

The Thunder are at home and favoured in Game 5 but that’s not necessarily good news for their backers. OKC is just 16-24-1 ATS in its last 41 home games when giving points. Only the Cleveland Cavaliers have a worst overall ATS record this year than the Thunder at 35-50-1.

The over is 3-1 in the series thanks in large part to Utah’s offensive production. The Jazz are averaging 109.5 points per game in the first four games and the over is 11-5 in their last 16 contests.

About 67 percent of SIA’s customers are backing the Thunder to bounce back in Game 5 and cover the number as 3.5-point chalk.

Utah are -1000 faves to win the first round series while the Thunder are playing +485 to come back from the 3-1 deficit and move onto the next round according to the Sports Interaction NBA futures board.

Utah Jazz

He’s not shouldering the scoring load or putting up giant counting stats but Jazz centre Rudy Gobert is forcing the Thunder to second guess every drive to the paint. Utah’s defensive rating is nearly 12 full points better when Gobert is on the floor than when he’s on the bench. The Frenchman is averaging 15.3 points, 11 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in the series and is expected to be named the Defensive Player of the Year winner sometime in the next couple weeks.

Oklahoma City Thunder

Russell Westbrook was expected to win the playoffs this time a year ago but if he falls out in the first round again this year the media won’t go as easy on the 2017 MVP winner. OKC brought in Carmelo Anthony and Paul George to help Westbrook win now and there were many people who projected the Thunder as a dark horse contender to win the Western Conference back in October.
