It isn’t easy to upstage Kawhi Leonard, particularly when the playoffs get started – but that’s exactly what Donovan Mitchell has done as he looks to lead the Utah Jazz to a 3-0 lead in their best-of-7 second-round series with the Los Angeles Clippers. As the series shifts to the Staples Center for Saturday’s Game 3, the hosts will need to find a way to slow down a red-hot Mitchell, who averaged an incredible 41 points as the Jazz claimed the first two games in Utah.

Jazz vs. Clippers NBA Playoff Odds

The Clippers are a whopping 5-point favourite to win on the NBA odds, despite dropping the first two games of the series. Not even a shift to the Staples Center, however, has the betting public convinced, with 75 per cent of Sports Interaction customers taking the Jazz and the points. Utah was an underdog of five or more points just once during the regular season, and came away with a 131-118 outright win in Milwaukee. The Jazz are 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games when getting 5+ points.

The betting trend on the total is similar to that of the spread, with an overwhelming 69 per cent of Sports Interaction participants siding with the O223 at -110. The Jazz are on quite an Over run at the moment, having surpassed the number in six of their seven postseason games this year. The Clippers, on the other hand, are on a 13-7 Under run and have slightly better Under plays for the season at 37-41-3 to date (the Jazz are 39-39-1 O/U for the year).

Utah Jazz

Mitchell had a scare late in Thursday’s 117-111 win over the Clippers after he fell to the court favouring the right ankle he had sprained several weeks earlier. He managed to regroup though, and make a pair of free throws to help secure the victory. Mitchell told reporters after the game that he would be “fine” for Game 3. The ankle injury cost him the final 16 games of the regular season and kept him out of Utah’s first-round opener vs. Memphis – the Jazz’s only loss this postseason.

Los Angeles Clippers

The Jazz have won 16 of the last 19 games played with Mitchell in the lineup – and the Clippers know full well that they’ll need to slow him down if they have any hope of getting back into the series. And they’ll also need to get similar production from Leonard, who has been solid but unspectacular through two games. The two-time NBA Finals MVP has been held to an average of 22 points per game through the first two contests while making just three total 3-pointers.
