Heat vs. Lakers NBA Betting Odds, Picks: MIami’s offence starting to click with Antetokounmpo
The Miami Heat visit the Los Angeles Lakers Monday night as both teams look to build early-season momentum.
Los Angeles is 5-2 and playing at home, but faces a scheduling challenge after a demanding win over Toronto on Sunday.
Miami has won two straight following a four-game losing streak and comes in with the benefit of a weekend off.
The Heat have found their offensive rhythm, and this matchup offers a chance to test a Lakers defence that has struggled with physical attacks.
L.A. is a slim 1.5-point favourite to win on the NBA odds, with the total set at 237.5.
Heat vs. Lakers NBA Betting Odds
Miami has scored at least 129 points in each of its last two victories after managing 111 or fewer in its opening four losses.
The Lakers are playing the second game of a back-to-back. Los Angeles has gone 6-0 against the spread in its last six games on zero days of rest, however, so the schedule spot should not be treated as an automatic advantage for Miami.
Miami Heat
The Heat are starting to look more like the team they hoped to be, winning consecutive games while their offence begins to click. Giannis Antetokounmpo has been a major catalyst, recording 31 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists in the recent 145-125 win over Indiana.
Miami’s defence remains a concern, having allowed at least 113 points in each of its first six games. Still, Erik Spoelstra has had time to prepare for this matchup, and the Heat have some useful defensive options. Davion Mitchell and Andrew Wiggins can make life difficult for opposing guards, while Bam Adebayo anchors the defence inside.
The Heat also own stark advantages on the defensive glass and in ball security, two areas that could matter on the margins in a game with a tight spread.
Los Angeles Lakers
Los Angeles is coming off a 131-125 victory over Toronto, but the result came at a cost in terms of minutes for its stars. Luka Doncic erupted for 45 points, 15 rebounds and six assists in 35 minutes, while Austin Reaves played 39 minutes and contributed 19 points.
That workload is worth monitoring with the Lakers back in action less than 24 hours later. Doncic sat out the first night of a back-to-back this season, making his availability and effectiveness important considerations.
The Lakers have plenty of offensive firepower, ranking among the league’s leaders in offensive rating. Their defence is less convincing, though, and Miami has the personnel to attack them inside. Walker Kessler will be important as the last line of defence, but helping against Giannis could create opportunities for Adebayo.
NBA Prediction: Who Will Win Heat vs. Lakers?
I like Miami to take advantage of the rest disparity and its interior depth advantages. Mitchell can make things uncomfortable for Doncic and Reaves, while Giannis should be a difficult assignment for a Lakers team that lacks the size to consistently contain him on the wings.
Matisse Thybulle is a terrific defender, but at 6-foot-5, plus tired legs, he has quite the uphill battle against a rested Giannis.
Los Angeles has covered regularly on no rest, but I’m more concerned about its defensive matchup and the workload from Sunday.
Best bet: Heat moneyline (+110)
