The Heat are looking to put an ugly Game 1 loss behind them as they try to come up with a solution to stopping LeBron James and Anthony David from dominating Friday’s Game 2.

After a surprise early lead, the Heat had no answer to James and Davis who helped the Lakers to a 116-98 win in Game 1 on Wednesday.  Miami was so mismatched they were actually outscored by 30 points to end the first half.  The Lakers come in as 9.5-point favourites for Game 2, with an opening total of 216.5.

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

After easily covering as 5-point favourites in Game 1 the Lakers are now 5-1 ATS in their last six games following an ATS win.  James and Davis have been putting up big points recently, pushing the over to 4-1 in L.A.’s last five games overall

The Heat are now 0-4 ATS in their last four NBA Championship games, dating back to LeBron’s days in South Beach.  The over is 5-1 in Miami’s last six games following a SU loss of more than 10 points and 4-1 in their last five games overall.

Miami Heat

The Heat played great on Wednesday, leading 21-10 at one point and going on a 13-0 run.  Then they played the final 54 minutes of the game.  After an early lead just about everything that could go wrong, did go wrong.  That first six minutes of the game was as good as it got for Miami.  Jimmy Butler’s team-high 23 points weren’t nearly enough as the Heat trailed going into every quarter.

If that wasn’t bleak enough, the Heat were also hit by the injury bug.  Starters Bam Adebayo (shoulder) and Goran Dragic (foot) both left Game 1 early and are listed as doubtful for Game 2.  Rookie Tyler Herro, who finished Game 1 with 14 points, four rebounds and three assists, will likely replace Dragic as a starter, while either Kelly Olynyk, who hasn’t played consistently since the first round, or Andre Iguodala, who is significantly smaller in an already small lineup, will likely fill in for Adebayo.  Either way, Miami needs to completely revamp their game plan for Friday if they don’t want the Lakers to run away with this series.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers stars abused the Heat in Game 1 with Anthony Davis scoring a game-high 34 points in his finals debut and LeBron James finishing with 25 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists, one assist shy of a triple-double.  L.A. led by as much as 32 points in the game and nailed 15 3-pointers.  That is a huge number considering they finished in the bottom-10 of the league in 3-point shooting at 34.9 per cent in the regular season.

Game 1 saw Davis essentially living in the paint, enforcing his will on Miami defenders and picking up easy layups and dunks.  Davis and James should easily continue their dominance in Game 2, so if the Lakers can continue hitting the 3-ball, it could be another blowout on Friday.
