The Lakers are averaging 121.2 points over their past five games, thanks in large part to the scoring exploits of LeBron James. He’s averaging 28.0 points on 58.2 per cent shooting from the field so far this month.

The Los Angeles Lakers have ratcheted up their efforts to regain control of top spot in the Western Conference standings – but they’ll face a stiff test Saturday against the hottest team in the NBA. The visiting Atlanta Hawks carry a seven-game winning streak into a weekend matinee encounter with a Lakers team that has reeled off four consecutive victories to pull to within two games of the conference-leading Utah Jazz.

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Oddsmakers are showing plenty of respect to the Hawks in this one, making them only modest underdogs despite their middling 10-11 SU road record. And Atlanta has had all sorts of trouble against the Lakers in recent years, winning just one of the previous nine head-to-head meetings while going 3-6 against the spread in that stretch. And that’s plenty good enough for Sports Interaction bettors, who are siding with the hosts ATS at an incredible 92 per cent clip.

The total trend isn’t quite as strong, but is still decisive, with 75 per cent of respondents taking the O223.5 at -110 (identical odds as the U223.5). Atlanta is riding an impressive Over streak, having gone 13-6 O/U in its past 19 games (though the Hawks are just 3-4 O/U during their win streak). The Lakers, on the other hand, have converted the Under in six of their previous eight games against Eastern Conference opponents.

Atlanta Hawks

The Hawks have surged above the .500 mark on the strength of a defence that has held opponents to an average of 100 points over the course of their winning streak – well below their season mark of 110.9. And things are going well for the team off the court, as well: the Hawks confirmed Friday that 36 team members, including 14 players, have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, becoming just the second team to do so.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers know a little about defence, themselves – and their suffocating D has been on display of late, as they’ve limited foes to 105 or fewer points in three of their past four games. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that they’re averaging 121.2 points over their past five games, thanks in large part to the scoring exploits of LeBron James. He’s averaging 28.0 points on 58.2 per cent shooting from the field so far this month.
