Grizzlies vs. Knicks Prediction: NBA Odds, Point Spread

Former Raptor Jonas Valanciunas is playing the best basketball of his career and he is a big reason why Memphis has led the NBA in defensive rebounds over the last five games.

The New York Knicks look like they’re beginning to fall apart at the worst possible time.  They’re barely clinging to a playoff spot and they’ve dropped five of their last six games.  To get back on track they’ll need to go through a tough Memphis Grizzlies team that is riding a four-game winning streak.

The Grizzlies are slim 1-point favourites on the NBA odds with a total of 216.

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Sports Interaction bettors are fairly split on these teams, but the total is a different story.  The Over is seeing a lot of action with 73 per cent of bettors banking on a high scoring game.

Memphis has been a strong road team this year.  They’re 14-9 outside of friendly confines and they’ve won their last three road games.  The Grizzlies are 30-18-1 against the spread overall and they’ve covered in six straight games.  They’ve hit the Over in seven of their last 10 games.

The Knicks play much better at home, putting up a 14-10 record at Madison square Garden.  They’re 30-21-1 ATS and have covered in 13 home games.  Boasting the best defence in the league, it’s not surprising to see New York go Under the total in nine of their last 12 games, including five of their last six home games.

Memphis Grizzlies

Memphis has been hitting their stride at the right time.  They’ve averaged 122 points in their last four games and have only given up an average of 108, to give them a two-game cushion for eighth spot in the Western Conference.  The Grizzlies are coming off a 131-113 win in Atlanta that saw six different Memphis players hit double-digit points.  Grayson Allen led the way with 30 points against the Hawks, while Ja Morant and Jonas Valanciunas each added 19.  Memphis is winning the battles on the glass and has averaged the most defensive rebounds in the NBA over their last five games.

Former Raptor Valanciunas is playing the best basketball of his career.  After his performance in March, Valanciunas is the first Memphis player to average 15 rebounds per game in a month and he led the NBA in total rebounds (225) and double-doubles (14) in March.  He has the highest point differential on the Grizzlies for the season (+2.2) and over his last two games that number has jumped to +9.3.  A big part of that positive point differential is Valanciunas’ 56.3 per cent shooting mark from the field.

New York Knicks

New York’s normally consistent record this season dropped below .500 with two straight two-point road losses.  The Knicks fell 114-112 in Brooklyn on Monday, before dropping a 101-99 decision in Boston on Wednesday.  Offence has been the biggest issue for New York all season.  They’re 28th in points per game (104.9) and shoot just 45 per cent from the field.  Julius Randle is a solid all-round player and RJ Barrett can go on scoring sprees, but the Knicks just don’t have enough players consistently putting points on the board.

Randle has been the most consistent player on the roster this season, averaging team-highs in points (22.9), rebounds (10.7), and assists per game (6.0).  He put up 22 points, nine rebounds and six assists to go along with three steals against the Celtics on Wednesday.  Randle has a career-high four triple-doubles this season and is also averaging career-highs in points, rebounds, assists, steals and 3-point shooting.
