Joel Embiid will not be in the lineup for Philadelphia when they play Cleveland, making matters worse for a 76ers club that has dropped seven straight. The Cavs have a six-game lead on the Eastern Conference entering the weekend, and have a chance to increase that gap with another pair of wins this weekend. Friday’s matchup is the front end of back-to-backs for both clubs.

Philadelphia’s returning from a three-game road trip in which they suffered a trio of double-digit losses. The 76ers last victory came on January 8, a 109-103 win versus Washington. Cleveland’s uncharacteristically dropped three of their last six outings.

Tip-off at Wells Fargo Center is set for 7 p.m. EST with the Cavaliers a 10.5-point road favourite and the over-under at 228.5 on the NBA odds.

Cavaliers vs. 76ers NBA Betting Odds

The 76ers have failed to cover the spread in nine straight games. They are an NBA-worst 4-15 ATS on home court this season, and recent history indicates the 10-point spread isn’t enough on Friday as Cleveland already has a 27-point victory against the 76ers back on December 21. That said, prior to that win the 76ers had covered against Cleveland four straight times.

Seven of the last eight Cavs–76ers contests have finished over the total. Cleveland is 14-6-1 to the over on the road this season, and rank second in the NBA with 121 points per game. The winning recipe for Cleveland is hitting 110 points — since December they are 19-2 when doing so, and 0-2 when not.

Cleveland Cavaliers

Cleveland will again be without forward Evan Mobley (calf) on Friday. The big man was missed during Wednesday’s loss at Houston, a game in which the Cavs were out-rebounded 53-45. The Cavs left a lot out there on Wednesday, missing free throws down the stretch in a fourth quarter that ended with a score of 25-15 Cleveland. Only 13 of the Cavs 41 three-pointers fell in, which is way below standard for the league’s best three-point shooting squad.

The key in both of Cleveland’s recent losses has been off nights from guard Donovan Mitchell. The 28-year-old is Cleveland’s leading scorer, but had point totals of 19 and eight in Cleveland’s last two losses, and shot seven for 21 from the field at Houston on Wednesday. Expect “Spida” to bounce back at Philadelphia.

Philadelphia 76ers

Philadelphia isn’t getting healthier as the weekend approaches. Joel Embiid (knee), Andre Drummond (toe), Kyle Lowry (hip), Caleb Martin (hip), K.J. Martin (foot), and Jared McCain (knee) are all deemed out. Drummond had returned on Tuesday at Denver but is back out, as Philadelphia’s hopes at even the playoffs start to dwindle.

At 15-27, Philadelphia is several games outside the East’s play-in picture. Three straight double-digit defeats is confirming the downward trend this 76ers is on, as top scorers Tyrese Maxey and Paul George can only do so much. Maxey has led Philadelphia in scoring in four straight games and is averaging 27.6 points per game this month.
