76ers vs. Knicks NBA Betting Odds

Perhaps I should have clarified that 76ers-Knicks is one of the NBA’s better regular-season rivalries because somehow the division rivals have not met in the postseason since 1989. It’s the 10th all-time playoff matchup between the franchises.

Interesting that both teams are -110 to win the best-of-7 considering New York is the East’s No. 2 seed and obviously has home-court advantage, while Philadelphia is the No. 7. The over-under for total games in the series is 5.5, with the over a -210 favourite. I believe it goes at least six, and that is the +195 favourite. A sweep is the +500 long shot. Philly in six at +350 is the overall correct series favourite followed by New York in seven at +450 – that’s my lean. The Knicks winning Game 1 and the series is +165 and Philadelphia to win Game 1 and the series is +220.

New York won the regular-season series 3-1 with the Knicks’ victories coming by 36, 14, and 27 points. Sixers star and 2023 NBA MVP Joel Embiid only played in one of the four due to injury and New York blew out Philly in that one. The teams have split the past 10 meetings overall straight up and ATS. The total went under all four this season.

Philadelphia 76ers

No way the 76ers would have been in the Eastern Conference play-in tournament if superstar Joel Embiid hadn’t been limited to 39 regular-season games due to injury. While Embiid still likely isn’t 100 per cent off knee surgery, he looked pretty good Wednesday as the Sixers edged eighth-seeded Miami 105-104 to earn the East’s No. 7 seed. Embiid was only 6-for-17 from the field but had 23 points, 15 rebounds and five assists. No shot the Sixers win if Nic Batum doesn’t have perhaps his best game of the season off the bench with 20 points, including 6-for-10 from deep, and five rebounds. He also had a crucial block of a Tyler Herro three-point attempt with 26.2 seconds left. It certainly helped Philly that Heat star Jimmy Butler injured his knee in the first quarter. He kept playing but clearly was not the same. Miami led by 12 at the half. With all due respect to the Knicks, it was vital for the Sixers (or Heat) to win that game and avoid the No. 8 seed and a first-round date with NBA-best Boston. Philadelphia, of course coached by former Raptors coach Nick Nurse, can beat New York in a series but probably not the Celtics. Not sure anyone can beat Boston. The Sixers are 10-1 ATS in their past 11.

New York Knicks

On the final day of the regular season last Sunday, the Knicks were able to steal the East’s No. 2 seed with their overtime win over Chicago, New York’s fifth straight victory, and Milwaukee’s loss in Orlando. Thing is, it might have been better for the Knicks to finish third and face Indiana in Round 1 than a loaded (when healthy) Sixers team. Knicks guard Jalen Brunson deserves some MVP votes after a career year in which he averaged 28.7 points (third in team history) and 6.7 assists. His 11 40-point games were tied for second in Knicks single-season history, while Brunson’s six 30-point, 10-assist games and 36 30-point games both were first. New York’s big trade during the season was landing forward OG Anunoby from Toronto, and that has worked wonders. The Knicks had a 20-3 record when Anunoby played, and he had positive plus-minus rating in 23 straight games, a franchise record. New York held opponents to under 100 points in 23 games this season, tied for first in the NBA. The Knicks are 2-4 ATS in their past six as favourites.
