Eryk Anders UFC 289 Odds
This is the UFC’s first card in Canada – in part due to the COVID pandemic – since a September 2019 Fight Night card headlined by Justin Gaethje vs. Donald Cerrone also at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
Leon Edwards is the UFC welterweight champion and Anders isn’t ranked. The 36-year-old Anders, who was born on a U.S. Air Force base in the Philippines with his mother stationed there, fights out of Alabama. Anders was a linebacker for the Crimson Tide football team and played his final game for Alabama in the Tide’s 37-21 victory over Texas in the BCS National Championship Game to cap the 2009 season. That was Nick Saban’s first national title at Alabama. Anders had a crucial sack in the title game.
After college he signed a contract with the Cleveland Browns of the NFL and had had stints in the Canadian Football League and the Arena Football League before beginning a career in MMA. Anders is 15-7 with one no contest in a pro career dating to 2015.
“Ya Boi” ended a two-fight losing streak last time out, beating Kyle Daukaus by second-round TKO (punches) in December. It was Anders’ first finish since June 2019 when he beat Vinicius Moreira by first-round KO (punches).
Anders has nine wins by KO/TKO, five by decision and one by submission. Five of his losses are via the judges, with one each by KO/TKO and submission. The 6-foot-1 southpaw has a reach of 75 inches and his fights average 11:58. He lands 3.38 significant strikes per minute with 47 per cent accuracy and absorbs 4.22 with 50 per cent defence. His takedown average is 1.59 per 15 minutes with 26 per cent accuracy, and his takedown defence is 79 per cent.
For Saturday, Anders’ favoured method of victory is by KO/TKO/DQ and points both at +300, with submission at +1800 and a draw at +6600.
Marc-Andre Barriault UFC 289 Odds
The 33-year-old Barriault was born and raised in Gatineau, Quebec, and moved to Quebec City in 2011. He now lives in Florida. He’s 15-6 with one no contest in a pro career dating to 2014 and was the middleweight and light heavyweight champion of TKO Major League MMA. That drew the UFC’s attention, but Barriault started his career in the organization with four straight non-victories (three losses, no contest against Oskar Piechota).
“Power Bar” is 4-2 since and comes off a second-round TKO win (punches) against Julian Marquez at UFC 285 in March. After the stoppage, Marquez sported a sliced, bloody, and swollen face.
“As soon as I taste the blood, I feel like I need to go for the kill. But we have 15 minutes to work, so I need to keep my composure and just pick my shots, and when the time comes, just, just blast him. So this is exactly what I, what I did in the second round,” Barriault said after.
The 6-foot-1 Barriault has a reach of 74 inches and his fights average 10:52. He lands 5.90 significant strikes per minute with 47 per cent accuracy and absorbs 5.18 with 50 per cent defence. His takedown average is 1.59 per 15 minutes with 26 per cent accuracy, and his takedown defence is 79 per cent.
He has 10 wins by KO/TKO, four by decision and one by submission. Four of his losses are via the judges with one each by KO/TKO and submission. For Saturday, Barriault’s favoured method of victory is by points at +165, followed by KO/TKO/DQ at +325 and submission at +1200. That the fight goes the distance is -130 with no at +100.
