Dan Ige vs. Nate Landwehr Prediction: UFC 289 Betting Odds
The UFC is back in Canada for the first time since 2019. Between the pandemic and some other scheduling commitments, it’s been a while since the MMA promotion has come north, and now UFC 289 has a ton of exciting fights on the slate with a number of Canadians on the card. One bout that is all-American is the Dan Ige-Nate Landwehr featherweight showdown, which will be the second fight from the main card.
Dan Ige Betting Odds
Dan Ige was on a three-fight losing streak before snapping that trend in his most recent bout against Damon Jackson. He came out on top via a second-round knockout in January. Even with that win, though, he’s still dropped four of his last six. That has to give bettors some concern when considering laying the -275 here.
Over the course of his career, Ige has worked his way to a 16-6 overall record, 10 of those wins having come by submission or knockout. When the fight goes the distance, he hasn’t performed as well, though, as all six of his losses have come in the form of a decision.
Ige seems to fight at a slower pace than what Landwehr prefers judging by the statistics. Ige lands about 3.80 significant strikes per minute compared to the 6.47 that Landwehr throws. He can compete against him standing up only if he is able to fight at a slower pace rather than go all out quickly.
There’s no question that Ige has lost some luster as he used to fight in main events and was in the title conversations. Now, even with a win here, he probably won’t move up the rankings. In this bout, he needs to stay disciplined, stay on the outside and pick off Landwehr when he can. That might be tough against an uber-aggressive fighter who likes to bully opponents.
Nate Landwehr Betting Odds
There’s no question that Nate Landwehr will be aiming to come out fast given the numbers. He’s landing 6.47 significant strikes per minute and taking 5.51. He’s aggressive and gets some shots in, but also opens himself for big shots. He is very good at knowing when to take down an opponent or defend against one. He’s got a takedown accuracy that is standing at 63 percent and a takedown defense accuracy at 86 percent. Both of those takedown numbers are significantly greater than what Ige has done in those areas.
Landwehr is stepping into the Octagon here after picking up a naked choke submission win over Austin Lingo in March. He’s now won his past three fights going back to 2021 and hopes to keep building.
Looking at how Landwehr takes his matchups, he likes to play at a quick tempo and pace. He pushes opponents out of their comfort zones by being the aggressor and not giving much room to breathe. However, that can also be his downfall when getting struck too many times.
Overall, this is expected to be a close fight. Each fighter has a good mix of stand-up and ground talents that will help them make their cases. However, this feels like more of a coinflip than the oddsmakers are suggesting. And some might even say that Landwehr has momentum as he’s been the more successful fighter over the last year. That being the case, take a shot with him as a sizable dog here.
