Chicago Cubs vs. New York Mets: Odds, Prediction
A busy MLB slate is scheduled for Tuesday, with every team in action. This will include a National League matchup between the Chicago Cubs and the New York Mets.
This game between the Cubs and the Mets is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, and has an expected start time of 7:10 p.m. ET. The game will be played at Citi Field in Queens, New York.
My article is set to preview this game between the Cubs and the Mets by providing a brief overview of the betting odds, a closer look at both teams, and my best bet for the game.
MLB Betting Odds and Trends
When looking at the betting odds for this matchup, we see that the New York Mets are a slight betting favourite, sitting at odds of -120. This means that the Chicago Cubs are coming back as a small underdog, with odds of +102.
In terms of the runline, you can bet on the Mets +1.5 at odds of -210, while betting on the Cubs -1.5 will carry odds of +172.
Further, the Over/Under has been set at 8.0, with Over 8.0 giving you odds of -105, and the Under 8.0 sitting at odds of -115.
A few trends to keep in mind are that the Over is 6-3 in the last nine meetings between these two teams and the Over is 6-3 in the last nine home games for the Mets.
Chicago Cubs
The Cubs enter this game with a record of 40-37 and are currently in third place in the National League Central division. Chicago has been in decent form recently, having gone 6-4 over their last 10 games.
Game 1 of this series was postponed on Monday night, meaning that the Cubs will be starting Edward Cabrera in this matchup on Tuesday. Cabrera has a record of 4-4 this season, with an ERA of 5.21. He has not been much better on the road, having posted an ERA of 4.44 over five starts, allowing 13 earned runs over 26.1 innings.
New York Mets
The Mets, on the other hand, enter this game with a poor record of 34-43 and are currently in last place in the National League East division. New York has gone 5-5 over their last 10 games, but has also lost two games in a row.
Originally scheduled to start on Monday, the Mets are now set to start Kodai Senga on Tuesday night. Senga has a record of 0-5 on the season and an ERA of 9.00. To make matters worse, Senga has been particularly woeful at home, posting an ERA of 18.00 across two starts, where he has allowed 10 earned runs in 11.0 innings.
MLB Prediction: Who Will Win Cubs vs. Mets?
Even though the Mets are the slight favourites to win this game, the over looks to be the best betting option. This is especially because of how inconsistent the two starters have been.
The Cubs also have the ninth-best scoring offence in the league, so even though the Mets’ offence ranks 26th in the same category, their bats have come to life recently, while their pitching continued to be abysmal. For that reason, backing Over 8.0 (-105) will be my best bet, and I will be looking for the Chicago Cubs to win 6-4.
