Tonight, the Atlanta Braves (45-23) will travel up to Citi Field to visit the New York Mets (30-38) for a weekend series that pits teams at the opposite ends of the National League East. With the Braves, we have the team with the best record in all of baseball on a bit of a skid. Atlanta followed a home sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates last weekend with back-to-back losses in Chicago against the White Sox before their game on Thursday was postponed. As for the Mets, they salvaged their series at home against the St. Louis Cardinals by taking the third game with a 5-4 win after dropping the first two games.

Tonight’s tilt in Flushing should be a good one, so let’s break this NL East matchup down and provide our best bet for the contest.

MLB Betting Odds and Trends

The MLB odds board has Atlanta listed as a -130 favourite tonight with an 8-run total.

It’s not exactly rocket science that the best team in baseball is also the best road team, with Atlanta sporting a 23-12 road record away from Truist Park. The Braves also have the second-best run differential (+114) in baseball, so they’re scoring and limiting runs as well. The game total has gone over in 9-of-12 games on the road for the Braves, but in 4-of-6 games against the Mets on the road as well.

The game total has also gone over in six of the Mets’ last nine games against the Braves, too, so the Mets have been scoring a little bit as well. It’s supposed to be 87 degrees, which is a good sign for balls flying out of the park, even if Citi Field is more of a pitcher’s park.

Atlanta Braves

The Braves are definitely hitting as one of the best teams in baseball, with the third-most home runs (92), the third-highest OPS (.751), and the fourth-highest wins above replacement (WAR) in MLB. Matt Olson (19 HR, .903 OPS) and Michael Harris II (13 HR, .852 OPS) have led the charge for Atlanta on the offensive side of things. Losing Ronald Acuna Jr. to a hamstring injury stinks, but the Braves are deep enough to weather it.

On the mound, Atlanta is getting plenty of contributions from ace Chris Sale and Bryce Elder, who both have an ERA south of 2.70 on the season. Spencer Strider has seven starts to his credit since coming back from an oblique injury in early May. He’s still rounding into form, with a 4.00 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 36 innings pitched.

New York Mets

The Mets have won eight of 13 games over the last couple of weeks, but their infusion of youth in their lineup has been the story of their 2026 season thus far. While it hasn’t paid immediate dividends, players like Carson Benge, A.J. Ewing, and Brett Baty mixed in with Juan Soto and Bo Bichette have solidified their outfield, plus the top and middle of the order for the Mets for seasons to come. Wins may be a little scarce for the Mets, but they’re building a foundation for their future.

Who Will Win Braves vs. Mets?

The Braves will send out Spencer Strider, who hasn’t been at his 2022-2023 peak, but has been solid for Atlanta thus far through seven starts. He’ll be opposed by the Mets’ young ace Nolan McLean. The 24-year-old right-hander has a 3.98 ERA through 13 starts, which ballooned after a dismal May, where he ended the month with a 6.10 ERA. Recently, McLean has put up back-to-back starts where he’s given up one earned run, so it looks like he’s back on track.

With Atlanta still in firm control of the NL East and sending Strider out with baseball’s best road record, we like the Braves to beat the Mets tonight at Citi Field in the first game of the series.
