Toronto Blue Jays vs. Oakland A’s : MLB Betting Odds, Prediction

Toronto is a -150 favourite on the MLB odds with a total of 10.5 runs.

Jays vs. A’s Betting Analysis

Just a reminder that it’s only the “Athletics” while the team is staying in Sacramento through 2027 as a stadium in its future long-term city of Las Vegas is being built. Apparently, the club didn’t see the point of attaching Sacramento for a few years. That is generally considered a San Francisco Giants area anyways, and the A’s aren’t selling out the 14,000-seat Sutter Health Park most nights.

One big question of playing there was how that park might play in terms of benefitting pitchers or hitters, and it has generally been hitter-friendly simply as it’s very hot in Sacramento this time of year (why almost all the A’s games are at night) and the winds are usually blowing out. It’s common to see double-digit betting totals in Athletics games in 2025.

This three-game set concludes the season series between the clubs with Toronto sweeping four at home from May 29-June 1. The Blue Jays won three of the four by at least four runs and scored at least eight runs in all four. Ernie Clement had a huge series, going 11-for-18 with four doubles, two homers and six RBIs. Alejandro Kirk was 6-for-11 with a double and four RBIs. Addison Barger and George Springer had three homers and six RBIs each.

The Athletics were in the midst of a horrendous stretch back then but have been playing somewhat better since. But manager Mark Kotsay is considered on a hot seat.

Toronto Blue Jays

Toronto’s MLB-best 10-game winning streak was snapped in the series finale at the White Sox on Wednesday in a 2-1 loss. The Jays finished a victory shy of tying the franchise mark set five times, most recently in August 2015. Reliever Ryan Burr, recently off the injured list, had to leave with a shoulder injury. Manager John Schneider rested regulars Ernie Clement, George Springer and Alejandro Kirk ahead of Thursday’s off day, and it proved costly – although all three eventually got into the game. Future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer (0-0, 4.76 ERA) will make his fourth career start in a Blue Jays uniform on Friday. He has yet to reach 84 pitchers in his first four and continued to deal with some inflammation in his troublesome right thumb during his most recent start last Saturday against the Angels (4 IP, 5 H, 2 ER) but has been cleared for Friday. Scherzer has started against the Athletics nine times career, although obviously never in Sacramento, and is 4-1 with a 3.86 ERA. Sutter Health Park will be the 36th different stadium in which the three-time Cy Young Award winner will pitch in the majors. The Jays are 5-2 in their past seven road games.

Oakland Athletics

The A’s are at a minor disadvantage in that they had to play Thursday night, winning 5-4 in 11 innings at home vs. Atlanta. The Athletics did empty the bullpen, so that is another break for the Blue Jays tonight. The temperature at first pitch Thursday was 99 degrees (37 Celsius), the highest for an A’s home game since that measurement was tracked daily in 1991. It might be hotter tonight. Shortstop Jacob Wilson, the AL Rookie of the Year favourite and a starter for the Junior Circuit in next week’s All-Star Game, missed a second straight game Thursday after getting hit on his left hand by a pitch Tuesday. Wilson is day-to-day. Veteran righty Luis Severino takes the mound Friday, and he has been a big-ticket free-agent bust at 2-10 with a 5.30 ERA in 19 starts with his last win on June 13 in Kansas City. At home, he’s a ghastly 0-8 with a 7.04 ERA. The A’s were largely mocked this past offseason for signing Severino to a three-year, $67 million free-agent deal, and it clearly has not worked. Severino missed the Blue Jays in the earlier series and is 6-3 with a 3.97 ERA against them in 18 career appearances (15 starts) spanning 79.1 innings. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is 4-for-12 off him with a homer and five strikeouts. George Springer is just 3-for-31 off him with 12 strikeouts, although two of the hits are solo homers.
