Frank Doyle looks at this weekend’s interleague games between the three biggest cities in America – New York, Chicago and Los Angeles!

New York Yankees at New York Mets

Home advantage is about the only thing the Mets have going for them in this series. The Yankees dominate the historical series with a 47-34 regular season winning record. The Mets have held their own to split in some years, but generally speaking, the Mets pitchers spend a lot of time looking over their shoulders at balls sailing over their heads. Or ducking.

That’s unlikely to change this weekend. The Mets have shown some form recently but the Yankees are just plain better. Maybe the Mets can pull off a win in one of the three games – they are spared the full force of the Yankee rotation – but really, the Mets are outmatched by land and by sea and their MLB betting price is a true reflection of that.

Chicago White Sox at Chicago Cubs

The Cubs have held their own in this series relative to the other two, and have even dominated at times, like the 5-1 record in 2007. But the White Sox are the historical leaders just the same, with 43 wins to the Cubs’ 38. The White Sox won at the Cell last week but not many people noticed because not many people were there.

Both the White Sox and the Cubs are struggling right now. The Sox are more disappointing because they should be better, with Adam Dunn being the poster boy for that particular argument. The Cubs couldn’t beat the Royals. What are you gonna do?

LA Dodgers at LA Angels

The Angels lead the all-time series 48-35, and in recent years it’s not even been close. The Angels are 18-9 since 2007, including the three games played last weekend at Chavez Ravine. The Angels slumped at the start of June but they’re 8-2 in their last ten games and are only one game behind Texas in the AL West.

For the Dodgers its been the year from hell, both on the ballpark and in the boardroom. There is hope on Saturday, when Clayton Kershaw, 8-3, 2.93 ERA takes to the hill but Kershaw faces Jered Weaver, 9-4, 1.97 ERA, and Weaver is no dummy either. All the signs say Angels sweep as the misery gets worse and worse for the Dodgers.
