Mine That Bird

Movie About Former Kentucky Derby Winner Mine That Bird in the Works

With the incredible longshot Mine That Bird winning the Kentucky Derby back in 2009, it was only a matter of time before Hollywood came calling.

The producer of Dances With Wolves and The Bodyguard, Jim Wilson, is set to begin production on a film about Mine That Bird, the horse who entered that race as a 50/1 longshot and appropriately titled, the film will be called 50 to 1. in reference to the New Mexico gelding’s long odds coming into the big race that year.

Mine That Bird, while failing to capture the Triple Crown, went on to finish in second place at The Preakness Stakes and third place at the Belmont Stakes.

On November 6, 2010, Mine That Bird was retired from racing after being winless in nine starts since the Kentucky Derby.

Production on the independent film will begin in September and run for approximately eight weeks with locations  for shooting all in Mine That Bird’s birthplace of New Mexico.

On February 11, 2010, Mine That Bird was unanimously voted New Mexico Horse of the Year for 2009 by the New Mexico State House of Representatives. On May 19, 2010, Mine That Bird was transferred to Hall of Fame trainer, D. Wayne Lukas. Get all your online horse racing odds with Sports Interaction now.
