2010 Breeders' Cup Classic Winner is Blame
Louisville, Kentucky – In a huge upset, Zenyatta, the much-adored six-year-old mare with a Secretariat-like story, lost the 2010 Breeders Cup Classic to Blame. The top three finishers at the Breeders Cup Classic are: Blame, Zenyatta and Fly Down.
The once undefeated $6.4 million dollar six-year-old will now retire with a marred record. This race was anticipated to be Zenyatta‘s third Breeders’ Cup win, but sadly, she took second place. Last year, Zenyatta was the first mare ever to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic, earning her the 2009 Eclipse Award for “Moment of the Year.” She also won the Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic in 2008.
The grandstands at Churchill Downs were full of spectators as the Win/Place/Show thoroughbreds crossed the line in the 1 1/4-mile Breeders Cup Classic. The field today saw 12 horses compete for the $5 million purse. With Blame’s exciting win, there are more races in the works with Sports Interaction’s online horse betting available in the online racebook.
Meanwhile, in other Breeders’ Cup races, Unrivaled Belle upset favorite Blind Luck to win the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic. A bigger upset, however, was when Shared Account, a 46-1 longshot with no wins in four Grade I starts, won the $2 million Filly and Mare Turf, upsetting Midday. Filly Goldikova took the win in the Breeders’ Cup Mile, making history with her third Breeders’ Cup win. In the Dirt Mile, Dakota Phone, whose odds were 37-1, earned the win by surpassing Morning Line by a nose.
On Friday, following the Breeders’ Cup Marathon, famed jockey Calvin Borel got in a scuffle with rival Javier Castellano at the winner’s circle. Check out their fight here. Apparently, Borel didn’t appreciate Castellano moving Prince Will I am to cut in front of other horses and coming off the rail in the final turns.
Garret Gomez was the jockey who rode Blame to victory.
