Travelers Championship: PGA Tour Golf Picks, Predictions, and Tee Times
Wyndham Clark shook up the golf world with his stunning march to victory at the US Open. However, his first major tournament win and second victory of his PGA Tour career have done little to move the oddsmakers, who have listed the 29-year-old American well back of the favorites as a +5000 on the PGA Tour odds to win this weekend at the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands.
Here’s a look at how the newly crowned US Open champ stacks up on the PGA Golf odds, as well as other value bets, ahead of Thursday morning’s tee off at the 2023 Travelers Championship.
Wyndham Clark Sports Checkered Record at Travelers
With his US Open win, Clark has now recorded seven top ten performances this season including the first win of his career last month at the Wells Fargo Championship, where he outpaced a stacked field that featured Xander Scauffele, Max Homa, Justin Thomas, and Patrick Cantlay.
The challenge now facing Clark is to extend that momentum to the Travelers, where he has missed the cut in three of five career appearances. However, he also showed flashes of his vast potential at this event, claiming a share of 15h place while shooting four sub-70 rounds in 2019.
With five top six finishes and two wins in his past nine PGA Tour appearances, it is quickly becoming apparent that Clark has finally turned the corner on a tough start to his pro career. Accordingly, golf betting fans should be all over him while the value lasts. In addition to backing him as a +5000 bet to win this weekend, the 2017 Pac-12 champion also is worth getting behind as a +6000 bet to be the round one leader.
Eckroat Thriving Under Pressure
It will be tough to top Clark in the race to claim dark horse pick of the year honours, but Austin Eckroat is making a good case. The 24-year-old took another big step in his development last week while riding a final round rally to a 10th-place finish at the US Open, which he opened by shooting a record-tying -6 over the first nine holes.
Eckroat finished 47th in his sole previous appearance at the Travelers two years ago, which was highlighted by a second-round 66. Overall, Eckroat has shot 65 or better in five of his past 16 rounds, and it would be no surprise to see his Travelers Championship odds improve dramatically from their current position at +11600.
Eckroat’s sizzling final round performance on Sunday at LACC makes him an intriguing +8100 wager to lead after round one, and he still offers solid value as a +900 bet to crack the top ten for the third time this season.
Travelers Championship Value Bets
There has been at least one hole-on-one shot in 11 of the past 13 editions of the Travelers Championship including three aces at this event two years ago. However, with no aces getting shot in two of the past three editions, it is worthing looking at the +100 odds of that trend continuing this time around.
Matt Fitzpatrick struggled last weekend in his bid to defend his US Open title, settling for a share of 17th place. However, his woes pale in comparison to Justin Thomas, who missed the cut for third time since the Masters last weekend, and has failed to break par in each of his past 10 rounds.
That adds value to Fitzpatrick’s -112 odds to outpace Thomas in matchup betting. Indeed, considering his recent woes and his inability to make the cut in two of his past four appearances at this event, Thomas cannot be overlooked as a +191 bet miss the cut once again this weekend.
Top Picks: Wyndham Clark first round leader (+6000); Austin Eckroat top ten (+900); Justin Thomas miss the cut (+191)
