The 2023 RBC Heritage: PGA Tour Betting Odds
Scottie Scheffler is the +850 favourite on the golf odds.
For obvious reasons, many guys want a week off to decompress following the Masters, which was won Sunday for the first time by Jon Rahm. However, this year’s RBC Heritage field is much deeper because it was included among the Tour’s new “designated events,” which means the purse was jacked up to $20 million (US). The field also will be a bit bigger because of the change. The Royal Bank of Canada has been the title sponsor since 2012 and the winner gets a Tartan jacket.
Harbour Town Golf Links is the host course, a par 71 at around 7,120 yards located about 130 miles north of August National. The finishing hole with the course’s famous red-and-white lighthouse flush against the Calibogue Sound is one of the most scenic settings on the PGA Tour. Wind will be a factor. This is a shot-maker’s course with very small greens.
The defending champion is Jordan Spieth as he beat fellow American Patrick Cantlay with a tap-in par putt on the first hole of a playoff. Playing four groups ahead of Cantlay, Spieth birdied his 72nd hole for a 5-under 66 and 13-under 271 total. Cantlay parred the 18th in regulation for a 68. He would miss a 35-foot putt to extend the playoff. It has taken double digits under par every year since 2017 to win here. The tournament record of 22-under 262 was set by Webb Simpson in 2020.
The RBC Heritage Golf Odds
Scottie Scheffler (+850) wasn’t able to defend his Masters title or keep his world No. 1 ranking on Sunday after finishing T10 at Augusta National. The American slipped to No. 2 and it’s his first time in this event.
Spain’s Jon Rahm (+900) moved back to No. 1 in the world with Sunday’s four-shot win at the Masters. Rahm began the tournament with a four-putt double-bogey. He joined Sam Snead (1952) as only players to win The Masters despite making double-bogey on his first hole of the tournament. Rahm became the first European to win both the U.S. Open and the Masters in his career. Rahm’s only previous appearance in the RBC Heritage came in 2020 when he was T33.
Rory McIlroy (+1100) came up short again of the career grand slam with his surprising missed cut at the Masters. He has played here just twice and not since a T41 in 2020. Patrick Cantlay is +1400, Collin Morikawa +1800 and defending champion Jordan Spieth +2000. Spieth shot 66 on Sunday at Augusta to rocket up to T4. Cantlay had that runner-up here last year and also has been third twice. Morikawa’s best finish is T7.
No Canadian has won this tournament. Jim Nelford finished runner-up by two shots to Fuzzy Zoeller in 1983. Corey Conners was T12 last year, Adam Hadwin T26, Adam Svensson T26 and Roger Sloan T59. Nick Taylor, Mackenzie Hughes and Michael Gligic missed the cut. Conners is +4500 this week with Hadwin +10000, Svensson +15000, Taylor +15000, Taylor Pendrith +17500 and Hughes +20000.
The RBC Heritage Golf Predictions
We think Patrick Cantlay (+1400) is due to win here, but will take an American overall at -182.
