Shriners Hospitals for Children Open: PGA Tour Odds and Prediction
Shriners Hospitals for Children Open Background
This tournament usually draws a good field because several Tour pros live in the Las Vegas area and, well, many others like to visit while getting paid to play golf. This year’s Shriners Hospitals Open for Children is the fourth event of the PGA Tour’s wraparound schedule and has been moved up about a month on the new schedule. Tournament organizers believed that improved the field as it doesn’t conflict with any major tournaments in Asia and isn’t played the week of Halloween any longer when some players stayed away just to be with their kids to trick-or-treat.
Las Vegas got a PGA Tour event in 1983, then called the Las Vegas Pro Celebrity Classic and offered the Tour’s first-ever million-dollar (US) purse. The first victory of Tiger Woods’ career was in this event in 1996 when it was called the Las Vegas Invitational. The Shriners has been played at TPC Summerlin, a par 71 measuring 7,255 yards, since 1992. It’s almost surely going to take at least 20-under par to win. Bryson DeChambeau did in 2018 at 21 under. In 2003, Stuart Appleby won here at a whopping 31 under.
The only player to win here more than once is Jim Furyk, who did so three times – last in 1999. He nearly won a fourth in 2005 but lost in a playoff.
Shriners Open Betting Favourites
World No. 1 Brooks Koepka tees it up on the PGA Tour for the first time in the new season and is the +750 favourite at Sports Interaction. He was runner-up here a couple of years ago and also has a fourth-place finish.
Patrick Cantlay is +1200. He won this tournament in a playoff two years ago and was a runner-up last year. Cantlay comes off a 40th-place finish last week. DeChambeau is +1400 to repeat with Webb Simpson at +1800, and Hideki Matsuyama and Adam Scott each +2000. DeChambeau also played last week and was T13. Only Furyk has repeated here. Simpson won in Las Vegas in 2013 at 24-under by six shots. He was 15th last year. Matsuyama is off a missed cut last week.
Canadian Golfer Odds
No golfer from Canada has won this tournament or even finished runner-up. Adam Hadwin is +4500. His best finish in Vegas is T10. He finished second by a shot to Cameron Champ last week at the Safeway Open. Nick Taylor is +10000, Roger Sloan +15000 and Mackenzie Hughes at +20000. Taylor finished T36 last year, Sloan missed the cut and so did Hughes.
Shriners Hospitals for Children Open Predictions
Take DeChambeau and Cantlay for Top 10s, but the winner is Chesson Hadley at +10000. He hasn’t been worse than seventh his past two visits.
