Sanderson Farms Championship: PGA Tour Golf Betting Odds
Sam Burns is favoured on the golf odds.
There was some concern a few weeks ago about the viability of staging this tournament with the city of Jackson suffering a water crisis, but Steve Jent, executive director of the tournament, said the Country Club of Jackson has been unaffected by the city’s water crisis because it operates its own self-sufficient water system with water from a nearby aquifer. The course is a par 72 at approximately 7,460 yards and hosts the event for the ninth time. It’s a 27-hole track, but the Dogwood and Azalea nines are used.
Six of the past eight winners of the Sanderson Farms Championship were first-time Tour winners but that wasn’t the case last year. American Sam Burns (he was the +1400 pre-tournament favourite) shot rounds of 68-66-65-67 to finish at 22-under 266 and beat out Nick Watney and Cameron Young by a shot each. Burns doesn’t live too far from Jackson in Louisiana – he was a star player at LSU — and made his professional Tour debut at this event in 2017 on a sponsor exemption. Burns has since won twice more.
“We’re thrilled at the strength of our field in our fourth year as a stand-alone event,” said Jent of this year’s event. “With our position as the second event of the new FedExCup season, the fact that this season’s playoffs will now include only 70 players, the golf course’s reputation –especially the greens – and the hospitality the players experience, there’s now a buzz that this is an event players need to play as part of their fall schedule.”

Sam Burns is the +1000 favourite to repeat. He hasn’t teed it up in a PGA Tour event since finishing 24th in the season-ending Tour Championship, although he did play over the weekend in the Presidents Cup for the winning Americans. At No. 12 in the world, he’s the highest-ranked player in the field. Burns also has a T3 in this event.
Sahith Theegala is +2000 with Russell Henley +2200, Denny McCarthy +2500, JT Poston +2500, Scott Stallings +2800, Sebastian Munoz +2800 and Taylor Montgomery +2800. Theegala was the 54-hole leader last year but ended up T8. Henley last played here in 2019 and was T54. McCarthy was T17 last year. Poston missed the cut in 2021 but was third in 2020. Stallings won the tournament in 2012. Munoz won in 2019. It’s the first time in the event for Montgomery.
Canadians have plenty of success this tournament as Nick Taylor won in 2014, Richard Zokol in 1992 and Dan Halldorson in 1986. Corey Conners was a runner-up in 2018. Roger Sloan was the top Canadian last year at T14 with Conners T17, Mackenzie Hughes T35, Taylor Pendrith T39, Adam Hadwin T45, and Adam Svensson, Taylor and Michael Gligic missed the cut. Hadwin is +5000 this week with Svensson +6600, Taylor +8000, Hughes +10000 and Gligic +12500.

We’ll take Denny McCarthy to win at +2500. He has made the cut four straight years here with two Top 10s. He comes off a T25 at the Fortinet Championship to open the season
