Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka in Same Group at U.S. Open
Fate has added some extra spice to the 2023 U.S. Open, which commences this Thursday at Los Angeles Country Club. Brooks Koepka, who defected to LIV Golf two years ago, and Rory McIlroy, who stayed with the PGA and was one of its staunchest defenders, will be part of the same group. They’ll be joined by Hideki Matsuyama, who won the Masters in 2021.

McIlroy and Koepka Play Together at U.S. Open
It’s as if it was meant to be. In the first major golf tournament since the shocking news that the PGA and LIV would put aside their differences and partner up, two of the most prominent figures from each would play together at the U.S. Open.
Tee-off is 4:54 p.m. ET on Thursday.
McIlroy was a vocal, unabashed defender of the PGA the last two years. Even after the announcement that the two organizations would join forces, the North Ireland native still had some strong thoughts on his mind. He even went so far as to suggest that players who signed up for LIV will not be welcomed back with open arms.
“I still hate LIV. I hope it goes away.”
At least he doesn’t beat around the bush.
Making matters even more interesting is that Koepka became the first LIV Golf player to win a major when he captured the PGA Championship a few weeks ago.
World number one player Scottie Scheffler will start his day in the morning at 11:13 am (L.A. time), 2:23 p.m. ET. His group includes Collin Morikawa and Max Homa.
