RBC Heritage: PGA Golf Odds And Predictions
We had a fourth straight first-time major championship winner at the Masters this past weekend at Augusta National as Patrick Reed held off a Sunday charge by the likes of Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler to win a coveted green jacket at 15 under. The Masters is one of the most pressure-filled events in the sport so many players take the following week off. Those who don’t, head to Hilton Head Island in South Carolina for the RBC Heritage.
RBC Heritage Golf History
This tournament knows what it is, and it’s a very casual, family-friendly environment off the grind of Augusta. Several PGA Tour pros live in the area.
Reed is not in the field at Harbour Town Golf Links, which boasts an iconic lighthouse behind the 18th green. It’s a par 71 measuring 7,099 yards and shot-making is much more important than bombing it off the tee. As noted above, it’s the 50th anniversary of the first staging of the event. A guy named Arnold Palmer won the first in 1969. It moved to April in 1983. Five-time winner Davis Love III is one of 11 former winners in the field.

RBC Heritage Odds Favourites
Seven of the world’s Top 25 are set to play. There were a few scenarios where world No. 1 Dustin Johnson could have lost that ranking at the Masters, but he remains there following a Top 10. Johnson hasn’t played this tournament since missing the cut in 2009. He’s still the clear-cut +800 favourite on Sports Interaction golf odds.
England’s Paul Casey is +1500 and American Matt Kuchar is +2100. Casey was 15th at the Masters, his fourth straight Top 20 on Tour this season. Casey last played this event in 2016 and missed the cut. Kuchar, 28th last week, won this tournament in 2014 at 11-under 273 by a shot over Luke Donald. Kuchar hasn’t been worse than 11th here since.
Marc Leishman (+2800), Cameron Smith (+2900) and Canada’s Adam Hadwin (+3000) round out the favorites.
Canadian Golfer Odds
Adam Hadwin finished 24th at Augusta and his best result here in three trips is 22nd last year. No Canadian player has won this tournament. Jim Nelford was second to Fuzzy Zoeller in 1983.
Other Canadians in the field are Corey Conners (+11800), Nick Taylor (+20200), Mackenzie Hughes (+32200) and David Hearn (+41700). None of those four played the Masters. Conners and Taylor both missed the cut the week before Augusta in Houston. Conners missed the cut at the RBC Heritage in 2015, while Taylor was 22nd last year along with Hadwin. Hughes makes his debut here off a missed cut in Houston. Hearn missed the cut here every year from 2012-16 but was 59th last year.
RBC Heritage Predictions
Take Hadwin, Kuchar and Donald for Top 10s, but the winner is Scotland’s Russell Knox (+5800). He didn’t play last week, a likely advantage, and has finished 18th or better here in four trips, including runner-up in 2016.
