PGA Tour Travelers Championship Golf Predictions and Odds
The PGA Tour shifts from West Coast to East this week with a surprisingly good field at the Travelers Championship outside of Hartford, Connecticut.
Travelers Championship Betting Odds
The U.S. Open is the toughest test in golf and was completed Sunday – won by Gary Woodland, his first major title – at Pebble Beach in northern California. With the Travelers Championship falling the week after that tournament and back across the United States outside of Hartford, Connecticut, it’s frankly shocking how good the field is for this year’s event with five of the world’s Top 10 and 16 of the Top 30 scheduled to tee it up.
The Travelers Championship, which has had a handful of names over the years, is played at the short TPC River Highlands. It measures just 6,840 yards and plays to par 70. It’s the 36th year the course hosts a PGA Tour event. It’s going to take well into double digits under par to win – no tournament wants to play super tough the week after a major championship.
Woodland isn’t playing after his breakthrough win at the U.S. Open. Neither is Tiger Woods, but Phil Mickelson is playing the Travelers Championship for the first time in 15 years. Lefty, who couldn’t complete the career Grand Slam at the U.S. Open, won this tournament in 2000 and ’01. He’s the last repeat winner here and is +5100 at Sports Interaction.
Travelers Championship Favourites
World No. 1 Brooks Koepka (+611 to win this week) wasn’t able to become the second player in history to win three straight U.S. Opens as he finished runner-up to Woodland by three shots. Koepka became the first player to shoot in the 60s for all four rounds in the U.S. Open and not win it. Woodland was the only other player to shoot in the 60s all four rounds at Pebble. Koepka was 19th in this tournament last year.
Patrick Cantlay is +1000 this week. He won a few weeks ago at the Memorial Tournament and was 21st last week. Cantlay’s best finish at TPC River Highlands is 15th last year. Jordan Spieth is +1400 – he won this tournament in 2017 in a playoff. Francesco Molinari is +1600 with Jason Day at +1800. Neither has won here. Paul Casey is +2000 as is Justin Thomas. Casey took a four-shot lead into the final round last year but finished runner-up for the second time in this event. Thomas is off a missed cut at the U.S. Open and has a best result of third here.
Three-time champion Bubba Watson is +2700. He looks to tie Billy Casper’s record of four victories in this tournament. Watson won by three last year at 17-under 263.
Canadian Golfer Odds
No Canadian has won the Travelers Championship. Dave Barr lost in a playoff in 1988 to Mark Brooks.
Adam Hadwin is +7100 this week with Mackenzie Hughes +12300, Nick Taylor +14800, Ben Silverman +20400, Roger Sloan +30900 and Adam Svensson +60000. Hadwin’s best finish here is 42nd last year. Hughes was 17th two years ago. Taylor has missed the cut the past two years. Silverman did last year.
Travelers Championship Predictions
Take Casey and Watson for Top 10s, but the winner is Charley Hoffman at +6700. Since 2012, he has three top-seven finishes in this tournament but yet to win.
